Right-click the network icon in the lower right corner of the screen and select "Troubleshoot problems".

First, look in the properties of the adapter, power managment tab, uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
Second, go into the advanced power options and turn off fast startup or from a command line,
    powercfg.exe /h off

Move the device to a different USB port to get it working again, then press the Windows and "R" keys simultaneously, type "control netconnections" into the "Run" box and click "OK". When the connection applet starts, right-click the Wi-Fi icon, select "Properties", "Configure", click on the "Power Management" tab and make sure that "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is unchecked.
