Open ports on router suddenly closed

    Hello,

    I have a Windows 10 machine with D-link DSL-225 router.

I've opened a few port in the router's interface and it worked for more than a year. Lately I noticed that the ports I opened are now closed and I can't figure out why.

When I check them with Advanced Port Scanner program, and I use the laptop's local ip they show as open. When I type the external ip they are closed.

    Any ideas?

I've tried so many things by now that I'm 100% lost.

p.s. I even called the ISP to ask if they close the port but apparently not.

p.s.2. When I scan the external ip, it only shows 1 open port when I scan "All TCP ports 1-65535".

That is because the “Router” places those ports into stealth mode, along with closing the ones that are not in use. The ports that you want traffic to go through are always in stealth mode. Port 80 remains open outbound, but closes it to unsolicited traffic, so that malware cannot creep in unwatched.

    So what can I do?
Why does the router has Port Forwarding if it doesn't work?

Even using DMZ still shows the ports as closed.

Nothing. It is normal for ports to appear closed while stealthed.

No you cannot take them out of stealth mode. It is normal behavior for what you are seeing.

One thing I don't understand is why does my router have Port Forwarding if it doesn't work and why the port I opened used to show as open on sites that check that for a year and in the last few months it shows as closed.
