Also what is 802-3af ? Is this higher than 802-11ac ?

    Found a pro version
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/UBIQUITI-NE...i+Networks+Pro

as the house is very old and big, wonder if this version might make the journey through the house better ?

Ubiquiti has a long range version, which may be more appropriate....would be good to try the PRO first.....from what I have read, the setup is rather complicated, is this true or is there a simple setup for basic needs ..? Also has power option settings....bit setting to high can apparently cause signal distortion.....any thoughts ?

Learned more from Jim over the past few years than all the other resources put together.

Pumping up the wifi signal with an external WAP may not be such a great idea for internal. The ideal scenario is to have the wifi signal just strong enough in each room to cut down on collision and interference issues. Obviously that would cost a lot more with multiple WAP's so you need to get a balance between budget and performance.

If you are going to run cat cable anyway then a combination of wired ethernet sockets and WAP wifi would be ideal.
Ethernet is cheap and reliable and you could run any fixed kit on static IP addresses and leave DHCP for laptops/tablets/phones et al on the wifi.
Or maybe have a guest SSID network on 2.4GHz for visitors that's completely separate to your main 5GHz one which could be MAC address whitelisted to only accept your authorised devices.

Will have a look at the contact you suggested, thanks

Trying not to run long lengths of Ethernet cable, just one run from the router to the centre of the house and fit the access point

Been told the UBIQUITI access points difficult to set up, wonder if anyone has any experience for a simple setup procedure, don’t need any fancy configuration , just want it to transmit Wi-fi as far as possible , will ceiling mount I think
