Can't get full wireless speeds on my new router

Hello and I need help.

This is my 1st wireless router, called Linksys EA-9300 AC which is wireless connected to my new HP PC which also has AC. I have 300 mb service in both up and down and cannot achieve the top speeds in any direction. The most that I can get is 220-250 up and down. I paid for the faster internet and my ISP says that this is normal when used with Windows 10.

Linksys also said that the router would be as fast as a wired connection.

Any help would be great.

Try setting your wireless to the following settings: 2.4ghz set to Channel 3, 40mhz channel bandwidth, g/n; 5ghz set to channel 149, 80mhz channel bandwidth, a/n/ac. SSID for 2.4 and 5 named the same. This has worked the best for me.

I have reviewed your issue and think that you have been misled both by Linksys and your ISP.

Let me explain...

1) A wired connection is the best way to achieve near or full rated speeds of the service offered to you by the ISP. However, you have to go from your computer with an Ethernet cable into the cable modem.
I think you will see an eye opening difference, which is normal and will vary.

2) The connection type is crucial. If you were to go into your router with an Ethernet cable versus wireless, there will be a 10% (approximately) slowdown in your connection speed.

3) Now since you want to go Wireless-AC from your computer to the router, expect to have 70+ % of the wired connection speed that you would have if directly attached to the cable modem.

4) With this said, please enter the configuration page for your router in a web browser. Type http://192.168.1.1/ into your address bar and press enter.
Ensure that the router driver package is the latest one for the EA9300 from the Linksys support website or router config page and follow the instructions.

5) Go into the router configuration page and look for the Connectivity Tab.

6) In the attached image make sure that the following fields match the following. If you make a mistake, no worries, just go slow.



Don't worry about what the settings do. That's my issue, lol.

7) You will be instructed to reboot the router. Please do so. Then when connectivity is reestablished, reboot your computer.

8) Now check to see your speeds via fast.com or speedtest.net (pick the closest server to you.)

Like, why can't I go faster? There is a 200 up and 400 down option from my ISP.

Hi again. You are welcome, lol.

Sure you can do the 200/400 if the cost is small and test it out.

Here's the reason why the new settings worked:

1) Your ISP hasn't implement IPv6 and has a a number of IPv4 DHCP addresses still left in the pool, so I forced the router to enable IPv4 and a couple of related tweaks.

In addition -

2) You need to understand that these (MU-MIMO) routers are half-duplex, unlike wired Ethernet which is full-duplex and hence the increase in speed.
3) There are new variations on wireless-AC coming and your computer can only support the current AC.

There is a section in the Linksys Management (where you were before) to make a backup of this new configuration.
Please save the new config file in a safe place - for backup.
