    Question about IPv6...

    Maybe I haven't been paying attention, but...

    After updating my last system in the shop from 1803 to 1809, detailed here, and ping the host by name, it was easy to notice that IPv6 is active:

    C:\Users\UID>ping PC1

    Pinging PC1.local [fe80::d960:7f1a:942a:da15%28] with 32 bytes of data:
    Reply from fe80::d960:7f1a:942a:da15%28: time<1ms
    Reply from fe80::d960:7f1a:942a:da15%28: time<1ms
    Reply from fe80::d960:7f1a:942a:da15%28: time<1ms
    Reply from fe80::d960:7f1a:942a:da15%28: time<1ms

    Ping statistics for fe80::d960:7f1a:942a:da15%28:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
    Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms

    The ping still works by IP, but not by name:

    C:\Users\UID>ping -a 192.x.x.16

    Pinging PC1 [192..x.x.16] with 32 bytes of data:
    Reply from 192..x.x.16: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
    Reply from 192..x.x.16: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=128
    Reply from 192..x.x.16: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
    Reply from 192..x.x.16: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128

    Ping statistics for 192..x.x.16:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
    Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 1ms, Average = 0ms

    I do know that IPv6 had been disabled a long time ego and this is the first time the IPv6 had been noticed. For the switches in this network, IPv6 protocol does not matter. On the other hand, the Internet is accessed by utilizing the IPv4 protocol. The router does not support IPv6...

    Why does Windows update enable IPv6 protocol? Everything in this network, like printers, PCs, Macs, etc., are setup for IPv4. Could the IPv6 be responsible for preventing network resource browsing in this network?

    TIA...

    IP 6 is the future when we run out of IP 4 numbers a lot of devices and ISP don't use it yet so it tunnels out via IP 4 it seems ms is using it in some cases turning it off stops store and other things have a problem. Try setting your DNS to 1.1.1.1 & 1.0.0.1 as this DNS works with 6 if your using the router or ISP as DNS it may not support it

    We ran out of IPv4 addresses awhile ego, albeit you can still get blocks of /24, /18, etc., at the unit cost or per IP of around 20 bucks. I am aware of that...

    What I have not been aware that Windows 10 will enable IPv6 protocol, weather I want to or not. There's no Teredo adapter installed on my systems, that would do 6to4 data transmits. Didn't MS remove the Teredo adapter awhile ego?

    The DNS for the system is provided via DNSCrypt locally and it has been working and still does. This is not an issue. I do recall connecting to websites with IPv6 IP, through the VPN tunnel.

    I don't use Store, other than probably for Windows updates and updates are working just fine.

    What I have problem with is only network browsing, and yes, IPv6 is enabled. The shared folder can be mapped and works just fine. On my system, there's two Windows 10 installations. The other W10 with the same OS version has no issues with browsing network shares. I'll need to reset the network to IPv4 across the board to see, if the network browsing problem goes away....
