How can I turn off Wifi on shutdown on Windows 10?

I have noticed that when I have turned off my computer (and therefore shutdown Windows10), when I come back to it later and turn it on one of the first things that come up at the login screen (and after logging in) is the Wifi icon which shows it is still on and connected. This is worrying sometimes as it will be on before the Antivirus (McAfee) has loaded. I have no shortcut key on my Asus laptop for the Wifi and don't know of any Windows 10 key combo's to turn it off.

Is there any way to prevent this? I know I could just click the icon in the square down at the bottom but I forget to do that a lot and when I turn it back on there it is again.

What should I do? Is there a batch script or something I can run on auto? Any help would be great:)

You may be able to do this with a scheduled task set to run on shutdown- you can try it.

It is normal for the wifi to seek connection when the machine boots. If you have a wifi router in your home, it continues to broadcast rf waves even when your devices are powered off.

When a device powers down, all devices and radios power down also or go into a sleep state if you allow it to have WOL (Wake ON LAN) requests. A Wireless Gateway/Access Point is like a tv/radio transmitter. Even though your tv is off, the station transmitter keeps transmitting, because it does not know that your tv is off and will continue allowing others to have access. In the case of Wifi, you have a strong passphrase and do not hand that info out, no one has access to your network.

@dalchina: Thank you:) I tried netsh just now with admin (as it suggested in one of the links you gave me) and it worked, though I haven't tried it yet on shutdown....but I should be able to schedule that if I do a bit of googling. It still shows the list of networks....Does that matter? Is there no access if it just disconnects from the router but still has the wifi list?

dmholt57: I didn't know that. No wonder my family are always warning me about having it near me when it's off and not actually using it on your lap too...that's a little scary.

@bro67: Is there a way of turning off WOL in Windows10? See above answers also:)

    - likewise any app you've enabled on your logon screen such as weather that needs current data.
