    Flooded with network connections

I recently had Comcast activate WiFi on my modem, mainly so I could run my printer without a USB connection. Originally there were 5 or 6 available connections, as listed in Notifications. Now the list is up to thirty. Most recently added is hsd1.fl.comcast.net. So, couple of questions:

    1. How can I view and print out the list?

    2. How can I kill a connection and stop adding new ones?

2 They are not connections, they are other WiFi networks that your WiFi card detects. They might be the networks of your neighbours, passing vehicles, … To limit what shows up see Add or Remove Wireless Network from Filter - TenForumsTutorial

From a cmd line you can get a list

    netsh wlan show networks

What you may need is to see what channel others are on so they dont conflict with yours

To see what channels nearby networks are using, enter this in a command prompt
    Code:
    netsh wlan show networks mode=bssid
but a network may use a different channel every time it restarts. Additionally, the actions you take using the tutorial [linked to above] affect which networks are shown in these results because these results only include visible [unblocked] networks.

About "1. How can I view and print out the list?", I do not see the point of this. You might as well make a list of who is on your TV screen right now and what colour coats they are wearing. Honestly, I do not see what benefit you would get. You can show & print the lists the above commands give you as well as the lists of blocked & allowed networks [see the tutorial] but do consider whether or not you could use such lists to achieve anything.

You all are astonishingly quick to reply!

Thanks for the info. I've bookmarked Brink's tutorial and will implement some of the options.

Depending on your Gateway that you have through Comcast. I have the
TG1682G and have Wireless-AC set for Channel 149 (5ghz), Wireless-G/N set for Channel 3 (2.4ghz), with the same SSID. Wifi works like radio and tv. The stronger the signal, the more you will pick up. As long as you have a strong passphrase, do not hand it out, you should be safe.

Please understand, I am totally illiterate in networkese. So phrases like "Wireless-G/N set for Channel 3 (2.4ghz), with the same SSID" fly over my head like bats in the night. Can you suggest a primer or course that might help get me up to speed?

    Wi-Fi Tutorial
    Facts About How Wi-Fi Works

This one is more extensive, but a good read. https://www.cnrood.com/en/media/solu...ical_Layer.pdf

This one goes into how Wireless-AC works. 5th Generation WiFi: 802.11ac, WiFi Primer

I have found that placing my Wireless on Channel 3 (2.4ghz Wifi) & Channel 149 (5ghz Wifi), I get the best reception and it is away from what the majority of Wifi radios are set that are used by consumers. Setting the SSID to the same name (ie. tcebobs-place), allows what is called seamless roaming. It is like driving and instead of having to search for another radio station, say a different one takes over to allow you to continue listening to that station you were tuned into.

Think of a Slinky. The farther it is pulled apart, the longer the waves that it creates by the spring. The closer it is together, the smaller the waves, which is called amplitude. Having your wifi so that the two bands have the same SSID, means that you can go farther from where your Gateway/Access Point is and still use your WiFi/Internet connection.
