Thanks for the guidance. I guess I'm doing this wrong. Here is what I've tried and the feedback response from the system:

    PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> Set-Ethernet 2 -InterfaceIndex 19 -InterfaceMetric 5
Set-Ethernet : The term 'Set-Ethernet' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program. Check thespelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again. At line:1 char:1+ Set-Ethernet 2 -InterfaceIndex 19 -InterfaceMetric 5+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ + CategoryInfo : ObjectNotFound: (Set-Ethernet:String) [], CommandNotFoundException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : CommandNotFoundException

You need to use the exact command RickC posted, same as in the link I posted.

I get that but the Ethernet 2, I guess that's where my fast WiFi is from as it's the only one that's showing "Connected" in the list.. shouldn't that be in the code line and then to set it to priority 5 to make sure it's topping the list??

It is exactly how it is posted. You do not substitute any words in that command, only the numbers for the interfaceIndex and metric.

Post a screenshot of the PowerShell window.

(It doesn't matter whether it shows as 'connected' or not.)

I got it done. I used the more manual method and just went into the properties and unchecked the Automatic Metric in the Advanced options Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties and typed in 5. This morning when I booted up the computer the fast Wifi connection was what was on rather than than my slower wired Ethernet! That was easier for me than all the Power Shell.... thanks folks!

It worked 1 time then got back to the original problem

    Hi Rick,
I tried your solution using Windows Powershell (Admin) - I changed the NetIPInterface index and Metric values and the modification was verified through Get-NetPIInterface. When I restarted, the Wi-Fi connected automatically. But I reverified the interfaces and the values of the metrics were back to the values I wanted to change.
It looks like an automatic change by Windows 10.

Hi Brenda. Can you post what edition (shown at a) and version (shown at b) of Windows 10 you are using so I can check if anything has changed.

Press Windows key + r together then, when the Run dialog appears, enter winver.

    Hope this helps...
