Hi Brenda. I don't have 20H2 so I'll have to download it (and no doubt update it).

I don't understand your use of 'Family'. There's basically 6 main editions of Windows 10 (2 'standard' editions, i.e. Home and Pro; 2 'education' editions and 2 'enterprise' editions). Are you sure you're not using either Home or Pro?

    Hope this helps...

That was the version I got when I switched to Windows 10. Family version is the Home version.

I installed Windows 10 Pro 20H2 x64 and brought it up to build 19042.630.

As a default, the preferred network adapter was 'Ethernet' (with a metric of 5) whilst WiFi had a metric of 50... so I used PowerShell to reverse their metrics, checked with Get-NetIPInterface that the change had taken place successfully then rebooted.

    The settings remained changed.

I don't have a Home edition to try but I wouldn't have thought there was any difference.

Can I just check... did you use the option for Windows PowerShell (Admin)? I'll have to revert the settings and try it again using just the plain Windows PowerShell option, i.e. non-elevated, to see if there's a difference.

metric has changed and loopback is disabled

    Here's what I get:

    ipv4 Wifi's metric : 55
Loopback is disable : metric 75 (I think it must be metric 1)

Do you know how to enable loopback again

Hmm... 'Access is denied' using just plain PowerShell so it has to be elevated.

The 'Loopback' is disabled by default as it's not a 'real' adapter; mine are disabled too - both IPv4 and IPv6. Is there a reason you want to enable it/them? AFAIK they are only used by System for internal testing of network components (which I believe is why they have the highest value metric [75], i.e. last in order).

I've just changed the connection order again but this time 'shutdown and restarted' rather than just using 'restart'. Again, the changes to the connection order have 'stuck'... so I'm not really sure why your changes aren't sticking.

Are you trying to swap 'WiFi' with 'Proton VPN'? I know nothing about Proton VPN except that it's a virtual adapter.

No, I don't. Proton VPN is a virtual adapter.
