Turning 2.4GHz off/ Turning ONLY 5GHz On?

I don't want to "puck" anything up but I want to make sure that my combo router/ modem only uses the 5GHz (faster) band. I don't have any legacy items (I think) that only works with 2.4GHz so I want to see what happens if I force the 5GHz band to be the only one. I think I know that the 5GHz band does not have the range that the 2.4GHz has but that should not be an issue. Bottom line router/ modem works flawlessly. I do use a wired Ethernet connection and I do not believe that switching over to only 5GHz would affect that, right?

So is it simply a matter of unticking the two boxes associated with the 2.4GHz and leaving the 5GHz band as is? TIA.

You don't have to force anything with my Router/WAP (Netgear) you simply go to the Setup pages > Advanced Setup > Wireless Settings and untick the box for enable the 2.4 GHz Wireless Router Radio.

Looks like the same brand, you have to go to Advanced wireless settings, seems you are in the initial setup wireless page.

Thanks for replying. Mine looks a little different : ) I have a Netgear Ac1900 C6300BD combo/router. First off if you look at the bottom right I have actually turned OFF Wi-Fi in Settings. Is that why enable wireless isolation for both the 2.4 and the 5.0 band are both unticked? And is "enable wireless isolation" the same thing as in your pic as "enable wireless router radio."?So if I wanted to enable only the 5.0 band I probably should go back into settings and enable wifi and then come back to this advanced wireless settings page and what since for the 2.4 band enable wireless isolation is already unticked I should then also untick enable ssid broadcast and then directly below that I SHOULD tick enable wireless isolation for the 5.0 band as well as tick ssid broadcast for the 5.0 band? OK. Thanks. So, please correct me if I am not understanding you. First off I am not on a network other then my own wired Ehternet connection. Nothing else is connected to the router/ modem. Not even the smart television. So are you also saying that picture of my router/modem and the ticking and unticking of boxes has nothing to do with turning on of off the 2.4GHz band and the 5GHz band? or were you just clarifying terminology.

If you use a printer that is wireless for multiple computers then it may impact the frequency used to connect the computers to the router.
Many printers only work on 2.4 GHz.
When using only 5 GHz it seems to work until the printer is turned on.
Then you may need to use the computer via 2.4 instead of 5 GHz.
Using a USB cable allows you to use the faster wireless frequency for the internet.

Interesting and informative. I do not have the isolate setting but I do have broadcast SSID. If I choose to turn of broadcast(Isolate?) I am messaged my wireless devices wont be able to access ISP streaming Do these settings affect the SMART TV showing up in the network windows(on the Laptop,not the router) My 1TV has about 6 icons !!!
