Shared folder not showing up while a unshared folder does.

That's about a simply as I can put it. I tried to share some video with a new Samsung TV and my computer does show up as a source. I can select it and navigate to all videos folder. In it I can find one. I look where that one video is on my system and it's in a folder that is not shared. The ones that are shared do not show up. To try to understand and troubleshoot this I installed a phone app that supposed to stream to just about anything and it only sees the same thing. I set up the folders that are shared using the wizard and followed tutorial found on this forum. No change. Someone suggested I try Plex and I thought it might help me understand what was going on. I signed up, installed, configured it to point to the folder, and I could see the file. Plex was even listed now as a source on my TV. I selected it and the folder was empty. I would imagine some file is corrupt or screwed, but I have no clue how to resolve it and can't do a rebuild.

Welcome to the forum. You need to check the tv manual and see what files the tv can see ie jpg, avi then you need to know what sort of shares it can see as its not windows it may not be able to see the shares. Normally on the pc you right click on a file and there is an option to cast to tv

Thanks for the quick response. I have played files from my computer on this TV. They are located in a folder that is not shared. I also have shared folders that contain copies of the same files and they do not show up. To watch a video, all I have to do is copy it to E:\pictures even though it is not shared. The ones that are with the same video in it are not visible.
This is my Computer Management window while I am currently play a video from a non shared folder. Shared folder not showing up while a unshared folder does.-2019-01-07_234334.jpgShared folder not showing up while a unshared folder does.-2019-01-08_181937.jpg

Since this was never answered and is a question that is asked by many people over and over and still relevant today, I believe it is in need of posting an answer.

The files seen by media devices found on TVs, such as Samsung and other brands built in picture, video and music players, roku media player, etc. all use the Windows 10 Media Server, aka Windows 10 Media Player streaming service, to access files. They do not use windows file sharing services so they can't access shared folders and files on a PC. That is why you see files located in your My Pictures and My Videos folders even though they do not show as windows shares. Those are the folders that the Windows Media Server streams from. That is also why you do not see shared files in other folders you have specifically shared.

To see for yourself and verify what I am saying, you can go into the Windows Media Player, in the upper menu bar click on Stream and select More streaming options... You will see that the My Pictures, My Videos and My Music folders are where files are streamed from and that you can't add shared folders to what is available for streaming.
