    Printer disconnects from Wi-Fi

Part of an older post 10 Sep 2018 , at the time we were happy that the PC issue was fixed.
The printer was not the main issue.

The wi-fi connected printer get disconnected from Wi-Fi for no apparent reason.
Both of our pc's still have the wi-fi connection.
The only way to re-establish the wi-fi connection to the printer is to disconnect and reconnect the power line.
Once the connection with printer is re-established, we can repeatedly print again until we stop and the printer sits idle for a night, then the process starts over again.
I did reinstall the software, but to no avail.
In the event viewer it states to see trace logging, but I don't know how to find it.

Not sure what printer you have or what router. Could you post both.

One thing I find that helps is either reserve an IP address in router or used a static IP address outside the DHCP range or sufficiently high enough that you know other devices won't try to snag.

Reserving an IP address can be the easiest solution.

If you want to go static IP address on printer then first determine your IP range.

    IPCONFIG /all

will display the range you are using. As an example 192.168.1.100 or it might be 192.168.1.10. Most routers are set to start handing out addresses at 100 or at 10. Next devices would be 101 or 11 and so on. You would set the static IP address to be below this range so 192.168.1.98 or 192.168.1.8

Yes you could have used 99 or 9. Can't use 192.168.1.1 as that will be router. Your range maybe a little different like 192.168.0.100

You can also use a very high number as most homes don't have over a couple of hundred devices so 192.168.1.240 (No higher than 255)

It helps to know the model and manufacturer of the printer. If you keep the printer off for a long period of time (past the lease handed out by the Gateway), you may have to reassociate it. Call it a shortcoming of the manufacturer. You can try assigning the printer a Static IP in its admin settings, so that the printer can tell the Gateway what its IP is, vs. waiting for a new lease from the Gateway.

Hi Ken, thanks for the quick reply.
The printer is a all in one HP 2540
I cant tell what the modem is, it has a model number TG3428Z (or a 2) ER3
My service provider shaw.com installed it without leaving any documentation.
I entered the IPCONFIG /all as admin, but nothing happened when I clicked on run.
Since this printer is fairly old, I would buy a new one if I know for sure it is a printer problem.
    encl. pic of IP setting.

How do I go about this to try.
After many years using a PC, I am still illiterate as far computers go.

I was giving examples like 192.168.1.100. You will see your range is actually 10.0.0.1 and your device is at 116

So your DHCP server is handing out addresses starting at 100. Can't be 100% but 99.99% sure.

So you can give the printer an static address of 10.0.0.98.

Your printer manual can be found here

    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03847745

and you can likely use page 55 to enter Printer setup and set static ip. There documentation shows the same IP ranges I was using start with 192. 168, yours would be 10.0.

I would reserve an ip address in Router but a static IP will work. You gave modem number of Shaw, which I can't find, what are you using as a router? If equipment supplied by Shaw ask them. You could have two boxes, a modem and a router or one combo device modem/router. A single box is what most suppliers here hand out. You can even ask them for link to manual.

    Okay I found manual here

    https://community.shaw.ca/docs/DOC-16005

This shows you how to log in by typing 10.0.0.1 with user name and password.

Then this page shows you Advance

    https://community.shaw.ca/docs/DOC-12120#name

I'm betting under Connected devices down left hand side you can set reservation. That said you can call support and have them walk you through it. Printer needs to be connected. Its MAC address should show. This is a unique physical hardware address. You then reserve and ip address based on MAC address. It can be within your DHCP range, 10.0.0.100 - 10.0.0.255, say 10.0.0113 as the router will always hold (reserve) this IP address for this MAC. This way your printer always finds the same address.

If the fixed IP address idea doesn't solve the issue...
On page 55 of the HP printer PDF there are instructions for setting up the printer over wifi direct, bypassing the router.
If you have wifi built in to your pc's/laptops/tablets/phones then that could be another route in (using HP printer apps for tablets/phones). Or if you have USB wifi dongles that could work also.
There are also sleep settings that are accessible for the printer, so if all else fails you could try suspending those (although it will consume more power that way).

Thank you all for the replies, bypassing the router was the way it worked.
