    Any way to share files between Windows 10 version 1809 box and XP box?

    Now that Homegroup is gone, is there any way to share files between a Windows 10 version 1809 PC and a Windows XP PC?

    I still have a WinXP computer connected to my Network along with Win10 RTM, Win10 IP and Linux Mint plus other computers at any one time. To the end of sharing stored data I use a pair of 2TB NAS drives connected to my Wireless Router via Ethernet cable. Any computer Wired or Wireless/Wi-Fi I Map the Public Folder on them can access the data stored whether downloaded programs, videos, music, documents, pictures, etc. They do need Network Discovery and File and Printer Sharing turned on in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings.

    Can you plug a flash drive into a USB port on your router and share it on your network? If you do this it will make the router your home network master browser and might reduce some of the network sharing issues typically seen with home networks running multiple flavors of Windows. On the XP machine find and install the patch to enable Link Layer Topography. I also enabled IPV6 on XP and installed the registry hack that makes XP Pro look like Embedded XP to Windows Update, which resulted in installing about 127 security, .net, and other updates.

    Hi there

    @Banzai

    and for others who might have a similar problem -- this answers sharing BOTH WAYS i.e any NAS / LINUX TO and FROM XP and W10 TO and FROM XP.

    it works fine but you have to do a couple of things as well as enabling SMB1 in the (W10) Programs and features-->turn windows features on / off. It's not enabled by default.

    This will enable Windows 10 and XP to share -- now for NAS's / Linux systems etc you need to read the rest of this post. XP can even see and use large TB disks on the NAS.

    While I was using an XP Virtual machine I got it working by following the links

    here's my post on it

    Thanks jimbo turning all of the SMB stuff on in >turn windows features on / off did the trick (only 2 of the 3 boxes were checked 'on' for my box). For newbs the way to find this function is just to type it into Corona (it is buried somewhere in the Control Panel)
