    How to permanently disable internet?

    Cliffs are in bold text.
I have a computer with a backup hard drive that I use two older programs that are no longer supported, therefore they are very much exploitable if they are on the internet.
So what I do is I disable the internet connection. The problem with this is that after a certain amount of time, windows decides all on its own that it ought to enable the internet which it does. This has happened multiple times, and i'm getting really tired of leaping up from my computer chair to disconnect the router power supply.
The one program I run is highly exploitable, and I don't want to be on the internet however briefly.

Long story short, is there a way to permanently disable my internet connection?
On this drive I am running windows 7 ultimate, and on my main drive I am running windows 10 pro.

Hardware doesn't seem to be relevant, as I just upgraded this computer and it was doing this before and it's still doing this.

Setup a firewall rule for that specific program

    1. From start menu, search for "Firewall" and select
    2. Select advanced settings
    3. Choose Outbound Rules from the tree at the left
    4. Choose New Rule... from the menu at the right "New Outbound Rule Wizard opens"
    5. Select Program as rule type
    6. Select the program's EXE file
    7. Choose Block the connection
    8. Choose the profile this rule applies to
    9. Add a local name to easily identify this rule, as you may want to delete this rule later

    Hope this helps

Thanks for that, but there is nothing that I will ever do on this hard drive that will require internet.
Also there's always a chance that i'll install more older programs.
I would have to follow this for every single program that I don't want to access the internet.
Seems a lot simpler to just disable the network.

Is the backup hard drive internal or external?

If its external, and your router supports it, plug it into the back of your router USB port and setup access control to prevent access to the internet from the device.

This would be found then as a network device, but still wont have access to the internet.

There may be a third party piece of software to do this, but I am unaware of any to date.

    It is an internal drive.
My plans for this backup drive are to install audio recording programs for original music. The simple risk of being hacked makes this not the most optimal plan.
I also will be doing hardware design on this drive. Again, getting hacked would be a bad thing.
Add to that multiple programs that I don't want accessing the internet, there are only two acceptable options imo, and those are to permanently disable internet, or do all of this on a backup computer that is never plugged into the internet.
I'd certainly rather avoid the extra expense of using a backup computer for this, so the most practical solution here will be have some method of permanently disabling the internet connection.
And if there simply is no such fix, i'm ok with that. Then i'll simply put a backup computer together. Just from the spare parts I have laying around, I have everything I need except case.

You simply set a fixed IP but leave gateway blank then it can see local but can't get out to the net

For minimal cost, you could transfer the internal Hard drive to a USB case and setup access control as proposed, otherwise, I don't think or know any of a way without setting up a PC specifically for this purpose.

You may be lucky and an expert on the forums come up with a solution

    Good luck

Post back with your progress and for others to learn.

    Samurai

I think the OP still wants access for the PC, just the backup drive is needed to be banned from internet access.

Unless I have misread the post?

Are you talking about control panel internet options?

Can't you just disable the nic in Win7 ?

It sounds like you are dualbooting two HDDS and dont want Win7 to have Inet. access is my assumption????
