@Kbird that's how I read the post as well. Should be able to just disable the NIC from Windows 7. Since it's a software change unique to Windows 7 it will not affect the Windows 10 OS.

It sounds like you are dualbooting two HDDS and dont want Win7 to have Inet. access is my assumption????
yes, but i've been disabling it in network settings and windows turns it back on after a period of time. it won't do it in a day, but if I logon a few weeks later, it will automatically repair it. it seems the microsoft servers don't like seeing their software offline for too long.

With fixed IP and no gateway it should stay set on network adapter

that seems to make sense, but I found this on a networking site: "Without the gateway, the PC can't get to another network, and devices on another network may be able to send something to that PC, but that PC can't reply, and it can't establish something like a TCP session. This is a very bad idea."

Disable the network adapter in Device Manager.

If gateway disabled it can see everything on the local subnet nothing can access it from the internet as it has a private ip which isnt visable on the net

You simply set a fixed IP but leave gateway blank then it can see local but can't get out to the net
Or set an ip in different segment, also set Gateway in that segment. Windows will not fix that.

So, if your local network is like 192.168.1.xxx, set your IP as 192.168.10.10 and Gateway as 192.168.10.1, You can replace 10 with any other number.

Agree. As far as I know this.
Or you can make Macrium Image of that partition and run it in Virtualization environment. Without network access.

I guess I have never disabled one long enough for that to happen?...... I can see it happening if you allow M$ security Updates etc to Win7 every now and then though? perhaps do it proactively once a week , ie enable , check updates , disable again.
