OneDrive - shared link - one is required to create an account first?

I don't share files often, or better, I hardly share files.

    Now I shared a video.
Uploaded the video to OneDrive, right-click share, created a link, and sent it by mail to the person I wanted to share the file with (having a Gmail account)

That person tried to open the link and reported back that he should first create an account.

    Huh..?

Did I overlook a step somewhere?

    You did it right..

Did it say he had to open account or should as in more of a recommendation.

Yes when you go back in all asset are available to be shared, it does not show history of what is being shared. Otherwise when you go to share something else all previous items would have to be unmarked.

    Thanks. I'll ask.

Can't see where I went wrong, simply copy-pasted the URL and sent it over. It says 'Anyone' with the link.
No restrictions like 'Anyone with an account so-and-so...'
