windows cannot find my ethernet adapter

I get internet via wifi access . But my usb ethernet adapter is no longer is recognised. It does not show in the network connection pane .Under Network and Internet there is no Ethernet option. In device Manager under Network Adapters it's shown as Asix ax88179 USB 3.0 to gigabit ethernet adapter. In Properties General device status shows:

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware .The driver may be corrupted or missing ( code 39)

    Object not found"

I tried to update drive , uninstall and reinstall to no avail . What to do now? It was working yesterday .

    Please help. Thanks

    Hi sportflyer

Any chance you have restore points enabled?

If not are you using Macrium or similar tool?

Have you disconnected device from all connections and allow it to sit for a few minutes to reset.

I would also look at running a network reset. Start > Settings > Network and Internet > Scroll to bottom of rightjand side > Network Reset. If you are using specialize communication softwatre like a VPN you may have to re-install.

Found this article. Have not tried the any of solutions. For sure have a Macrium image before messing to deep.

My preferred fix is a Macrium restore.

I tried the traditional fixes like deleting the ethernet driver and let window load the default drives, Reinstalled drivers from supplied CD to no avail . Finally I decided to restore system to earlier time and that worked like a charm .However it took like 1 1/2 hours . I was prepared to reimage with Macrium if Windows restore did not work.

Some years ago learnt the hard way to make restore points and images of my computers at key stages . So far I have only used Windows restore points to fix problems , I have have not resorted to imaging yet. Someday I am sure I will have to . BTW does Windows 10 make restore points automatically before any hardware or driver changes ?

Happy New year to you as well !

I'm not sure it does and I gave up on restore points a long time ago.

Fails to many times for my liking and does not work with a feature update.

    Happy New Year
