ASUS Router - Should I use Smart Connect or not? Pros and cons?

    Hi,

This might be somewhat off topic since it is related to all wifi and not just Windows 10.

I have the ASUS Rapture GT-AC5300 router and I'm just wondering if it is advised to turn off (or on) Smart Connect?

The Smart Connect feature will automatically choose bands for connected wifi devices.I see that it is a bonus that with Smart Connect I have only one SSID and one Password. But is it better to split the bands up and connect to them manually? What would you do?

    I see! Thank you :)

I assume that I can not «lock» a device to a specific band using Smart Connect?

Choose a manual Channel setting to get around any overlapping channel interference. The manufacturers only use a limited number of channels, which in a area that is congested, you can run into problems. I always use Channel 3 for 2.4ghz (40 Channel Bandwidth) and Channel 149 for 5ghz (80 Channel Bandwidth) on my A/P's.

It appears as if the GT-AC5300 changes channels automatically to the one with least interference.
