New laptop with Wifi Ac and Verizon Qualcomm router major speed drop

I recently purchased a new Lenovo Idea pad 320 with a AMD A12 processor 8 gb ram, wifi and Bluetooth with Wi-Fi AC protocol. I have Verizon Fios speeds supposedly 75/75. My router is a Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377 router 802.11n 2.4 ghz. I usually got 40 Mps when testing wireless. My speeds dropped to about 1 Mps download. I called Verizon who contacted Qualcomm who advised me to uncheck WMN setting in my router settings. It helped, my speeds went up to 20 mps download and upload. This still seems really low for my connection. I looked up the router on QUALCOMM's website.
It lists the QCA9377 as. The QCA9377-3 is a single-die wireless local area network (WLAN) and Bluetooth combination solution to support 1 × 1 802.11a/b/g/n/ac WLAN standards and Bluetooth 4.1 + HS, designed to deliver superior integration of WLAN/Bluetooth and low-energy technology.
The question can, and how can I set my router to the newer faster wifi AC and increase my download and upload speeds considerably? I would appreciate some advise as what to do.

Welcome to the forum the router is a bit confusing as it states Wi-Fi Standards: 802.11ac Wave 2, 802.11a/b/g, 802.11n in the router setting for wireless is it set to b/g or n it needs to be at least n type

My router is an Actiontec. 801.11 b. g. n rated max 160 mps and I'm getting 20mps download and 50 mps upload on a 75/75 plan. I'm running on wifi 802.11 n. . My other computer an Asus got at least 40 download on wifi, same router. I just want to know how to or if it's possible to do more to increase my speed higher than 2omps up. I realize I wont be able to get wifi AC without a new router. I just don't under stay why the speeds are so much slower on this new laptop with wifi ac. I appreciate the replies.

Open Settings, then Network & Internet, then Network and Sharing Center. Your WiFi connection will be shown under Active Networks. Click on the "link" for your WiFi connection. What speed is listed under Connection?

It's 65 mps and it's been that for a while . Testing with ethernet cable I get over 100mps download and upload.

Make sure your security setting is for WPA2 with AES (not TKIP). Make sure WMM is enabled. Also try dropping the channel width down to a single 20 Mhz channel. Install WiFi Analyzer from the Microsoft Store and see which channel has the least neighboring traffic on it and set your router to that channel. All these settings are in the router.

But....really.....upgrade to an 802.11ac router! You can get basic 802.11ac routers for $40.

WiFi encryption has nothing to do with that speed drops, still change it to WPA2 with AES.

You're actually supposed to be getting around the 75/75 speed even with that router. Have you tried doing speedtest with your phone?
