WiFi encryption has nothing to do with that speed drops, still change it to WPA2 with AES.
Respectfully, you would be mistaken. AES is faster than TKIP on N routers. You might want to read up a bit more on it.

It's 65 mps and it's been that for a while . Testing with ethernet cable I get over 100mps download and upload.
You said you are 65Mbps. Can I ask how far / close are you to the actual router?

My router is an Actiontec. 801.11 b. g. n rated max 160 mps and I'm getting 20mps download and 50 mps upload on a 75/75 plan. I'm running on wifi 802.11 n. . My other computer an Asus got at least 40 download on wifi, same router. I just want to know how to or if it's possible to do more to increase my speed higher than 2omps up. I realize I wont be able to get wifi AC without a new router. I just don't under stay why the speeds are so much slower on this new laptop with wifi ac. I appreciate the replies.
It is ancient equipment that is not going to get any faster. 20mbps is pretty good for Wireless-n. Does not matter what you pay for to get on the Internet, it is the fact that you need a new Gateway. Get a Nighthawk.

You are just seeing that it has a 10/100 Ethernet port. Does not give a true speed of your overall throughput.

Waiting for results of the wireless test which may tell us the problem instead of guessing

I appreciate all your advice. I checked the routers firmware and it's the latest version. I guess I'll live with it for a while. I don't think I can use a non Verizon Fios router.

Yes you can use your own equipment with FiOS.

3 Ways to Use Your Own Router With Verizon FiOS - wikiHow
Use Own Router with FiOS ONT Ethernet | Grounded Reason

If you want a decent Access Point that can behave as its own Wifi router, look at the Engenius EAP-1750H. EAP1750H Indoor Access Point | EnGenius With POE, you can place the power in the ONT cabinet or near it and just run Cat-6 to where you want to mount the AP. I have used that model and it had a range up to 150 feet at 7mbps with U-Verse service that I used it on. In the house I was getting great speeds with all devices that connected. Just make sure to use Channel 3 for Wireless-n @ 2.4ghz and Channel 149 for Wireless-AC (40 Channel bandwidth with 2.4ghz/80 Channel Bandwidth with 5ghz).
