Window 10 will not connect to shared local printer on Windows 7

My home network has two computers, Windows 10 Pro and Windows 7 Pro, shared on a HOMEGROUP. For many months the Win 10 computer has shared a local HP LaserJet printer connected (LPT1) to my Win 7 machine. Recently, after an automated windows update, my Windows 10 will NO longer connect to the shared printer on the Win 7 machine. When I go to ADD PRINTER, no shared printer shows up. However, I can see the shared printer in the network section of Windows Explorer. Please help. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. I assume you are on version 1809 of windows. Homegroup has been removed which is why you can't use it. You need to remove homegroup and revert back to workgroups it should then work

Thanks for the reply. My error... I am using "workgroup" (not homegroup). Also, my Windows version 10 is 1803. What do your recommend?

I assume that when you say add a Printer your in the Devices section of Setup ? Is the printer wireless ? because they are handled differently. I have a similar problem, but my printer is wireless. If I power up the printer after windows has been booted up, it finds the device (notice I didn't say printer), but is doesn't print, it FAXe's ? I have to delete the printer, wait a little bit and then re-add the printer then I can actually print something. I'm searching for an answer and figured maybe your problem is my problem ?

Note that this just started recently, but I have moved to 1809 when I realized the I had a problem. I don't use the printer everyday, so most of the time its powered off.

Nope. Followed all your suggestions but no success. I have two shared printers on the network (one wireless and one connected via LPT1.) While the wireless printer is working fine, the shared local printer is not seen. In fact, NEITHER printer shows up in the Windows 10 "Add Printer" wizard. This all happened after a recent Windows update. Please help.

I would get you an external lpt network device and then both computer would be able to see the printer on the network. Like this one:

I have this same situation and have worked through all of these steps with no success.

I have 2 printers connected to my Windows 7 computer. The Windows 7 computer does appear in the left pane of the File Explorer when viewed from the Windows 10 (1803) computer. But the 2 printers do not. And, from this computer, when I click the Windows 7 computer in the left pane (Network\{windows 7 computer}) I get the message "Windows cannot access \\{windows 7 computer} ... You do not have permission to access \\{windows 7 computer} .. contact your administrator ... ."

Neither printer shows up in the add printer wizard.

I was able to print to both computers before a recent crash. They appeared in the "devices and printers" window and appeared as available in the drop-down menus in my programs.

I have another Windows 10 (1803) computer on the network. I am able to print to both printers from this computer. On this computer, both printers appear in the "devices" window and drop-down menus and the Windows 7 computer appears in the left pane of the File Explorer.
