1809 stealth installed...and PC now invisible on LAN

    Folks,

This is NOT a thread about 1809 and how Win10 "stealth" installed it. (I had no idea the update was actually an upgrade.) One of my PCs is now running 1809. Fine.

Before the upgrade to 1809, all my machines were running 1803 and shares and permissions worked fine. Every machine could see and access exactly what I wanted on my home network.

Now, the newly upgraded 1809 machine is invisible. All the settings seem to be the same, yet, it does not work the way it once did.

    Any ideas???

    Thanks,
    Ken

I installed 1809 yesterday, and all seems fine.

When your happy, Dont forget to remove the 30GB Windows.old using the windows disk cleanup app, scan for system files.

    Thanks.

They're both on (although FDRP has "Automatic (Trigger Start)" and I cannot un-trigger it), and running.

Oddly, I got a frozen computer when I was looking at the Service's Properties menu. I could not close it. I went to restart my computer and had the "Restart and Apply Updates" prompt. Under Settings/Updates, there was no update.

I could not restart. I had to hit the reset button on the case...and I glanced at the time. My PC's time was off by about 2 hours (and change). Upon rebooting, everything seems normal.

This was either an incomplete update and/or a bad CMOS battery.

With the reboot (and correct time), all networking seems normal. Just odd that it occurred after the 1809 update.

I'm skeptical, but open to the idea, that the CMOS battery somehow failed simultaneously with 1809 being applied.

I'm going to run the machine for awhile (and reboot as needed) to see if the CMOS battery is weak/dying.

    Thanks!

It is a issue with Master Browser election for SMB. When SMBv1 was depreciated, it caused some headaches. See this about troubleshooting this.
