Unable to use network sharing with 2 PCs on Windows 10

I tried to follow the tutorial listed and checked that the correct services were on and automatic. I also made sure file sharing is on. On my Windows 10 PC I can only see the media for my Laptop but there's nothing in it. On my PC I can see my Laptop but it says not connected.

I would like to be be able to share documents, pictures, video, and music. What is the best option for doing this?

I recently updated both machines to 1809 build.

A simple way is to use free Google drive on both pcs using the same account so as you save a file on one it will apear on the other all on its own.
It sounds like you trying to share personel files and folders even if you are on the pc as admin you cant access others folders so sharing then has problems.

Create a new folder away from users folders ie c:\file set that to share with everyone full control make sure the ntfs permission are set to let everyone have access(this is the bit most miss)

You should then connect or you can map a drive or connect via \\pcname\sharename

I don't know how to adjust the 'ntfs permission' but I'm now thing the password ticked in the network sharing is the issue. I hadn't noticed that. Do I need that on for my private network access?

Its simpler or you can connect with a username and password which is more secure. The simplest is to have an account on the pc your connecting to with same username and password as your logged in with as windows passes that by default and it makes it so much simpler as ntfs is set as well with that way

Actually they are not the same account. One PC has just my account. The other PC has a different account.

I have read others having this issue in the 1809 build. The other computers on the network are not even listed.

I created an account on my Windows 7 netbook that is the same as my Windows 10 Laptop. I can now see and access my netbook files from my laptop computer.

I also created an account on my Windows 10 PC that is the same as my Windows 10 Laptop. On the PC I can see the laptop listed under network, but can"t access it except as a media which gives me access to libraries such as music and pictures. I want to be able to access documents too.

I must be setting up something incorrectly, but I don"t know what.
