accessing Network share on other Win10 pro box.

for the life of me Windows 10 with LAN network file explorer is Attrocius... I have 2 Win10 pro right next to each on a gigabit switch, basically my son and mine and i can not access any shares on his C drive cant even access it via default share C$, my son is logged in with his microsoft live account, I get prompted to login but can not login even with admin account. i setup a share on the C drive cant get to it from my box.. i have looked up many ways to setup with file sharing and nothing works. Network discovery is turned on. i enabled Netbios on both adapters. all services that i know of are running DHCP etc.I am not using static IP addresses,

basically \\computer name doesnt work, file explorer sees the PC (computer name) but will not access it just times out.

does windows 10 require setup of Homegroup? to do fileshareing

There is no Homegroup anymore. You just need to make sure that you are using the correct username to access shares on his machine if password protected. Internet Security software can wreak havoc with file sharing. You should not be able to access the C$ account, only those folders that are shared. Make sure both machines are set for Private and right click on those folders you wish to share, to choose Sharing and set for Password or no password.

Homegrown has been removed. It doesn't like sharing a drive you can access c$ by giving and admin username and password so you would have to gives some email and password if there is no other admin. You could create a new local admin and use that it must have a password. If you create a share you give permission to everyone but then you have to set NTFS permission or you won't get in

ok got it, but still doesnt work even with share.. it takes a huge amount of time to open the shared drive or even the pc it self via \\ or file network places. WTF windows 7 never had this problem.
