HP 650 - WIFI cannot be enabled (urgent)

Hello. I have just formatted an HP 650 laptop because wifi light is orange (disabled) and cannot be enabled when pressing F12 key. In fact when pressing it FLIGHT MODE turns on instead of wifi. I have been searching the web to no avail. I have even update bios. Any ideas?

Factory os was w8. HP Wireless button does not even work/detected under w7.

    Help.

What windows are you on now? A hardware button will need a utility or driver from the makers site does the WiFi have any yellow icons in device manager

I have just installed w10 v1809 (17763.134). All drivers installed (Got w8 drivers from HP site). No yellow exclamation marks on device manager.

It does help to know which Wifi chipset the Wifi adapter uses, since there are three different ones. You most likely installed the incorrect driver.

Yup. I already got all drivers from HP (win8 x64). I am now trying from inside w8.1 to see if I am lucky (not such luck yet though).

PS - I didn't anything relevant in BIOS (updated it from F.34 to F.39). They seem identical as options are concerned.

    Minor Update:

    Tested under w8.1 x64
Behaviour is exactly the same as w10 x64.
I will test w8.0 now but I have got little faith in this POS laptop.
By the way, WIFI card is Ralink brand

    Hi,

Try here for the drivers, you will need the "Hotkey Support & HP Wireless Button Driver".... HP 650 G1 Drivers

The model you posted is a newer model. The one I am servicing is 650 only (without G1 - factory default OS is w8), but I will try this version of the HP Wireless button driver. I have tried w8, w8.1 and w10 so far and results are the same. What it's more infuriating is that own w8 HP driver gives an installation error both under w8/w8.1
This is crap support at its finest. Way to go HP.

    Last update: I give up.

I have read on HP forum, an HP technician saying that this Mediatek Ralink RT3290 wireless card doesn't work at all on w10 no matter what you do. It seems the brand just issued one or two sets of drivers that didn't work well. Of course HP denies all responsability and advices the user to get an usb wifi dongle instead. Great, just great.
