    New PC dropping connection to router irregular.


    I have recently got a new PC an HP Omen. It connects to my plusnet router via a wired ethernet cable that goes from one side of the house to the other. The cable was installed abouit 3 months ago and I had no problem with the previous computer.
    Occasionally it disconnects from the router and to get it to reconnect I have to pull out the ethernet cable from the wall socket and reinsert then it usually connects. When it doesn't connect I have a yellow triangle sing on the PC logo in the taskbar. When this happens nothing will connect wirelessly to the router either. I get message intern t may not be available.
    What could be the problem?

    Which router have you got the Ac with a blue light on it? If the pc drops and the wireless dies it sounds like a router problem is the light blue when it drops or green?

    When it drops open a cmd prompt type

    ipconfig /all

    When it started last week PN sent me a new identical router and that did the same. No drop outs since last message. Wondering if theres conflict with a wifi gizmo I fitted similar time. I have double ethernet sockets in my room with the PC at opposite side of the house from the router. One is plugged directly to the PC the other to a gizmo which creates a wifi hot spot for my phone (no mobile signal or wifi from the router to my room.

    I have also just discovered my new PC has wifi itself so could it be trying to connect to wifi and the ethernet cable connection at same time? Will have to try things with and without various things on eg disable wifi in PC.

    It may depend upon a couple of things, one is the length limit of 100 Meters [a bit over 300 Feet] and unless using the more expensive Shielded cables one must be careful not to route the cable near things that draw a lot of electrical power. One baddie in a business and some houses is laying an Unshielded cable too near or across florescent light fixtures. If there's such problems re-routing the cable may be necessary and if too long may need a Repeater.

    Wireless/Wi-Fi connections can be affected by things like kitchen appliances in the line-of-sight as well as distance, maybe what's in or on the walls such as foil-backed insulation or lead-based paint [in older buildings], some adapters and Routers are more powerful than others. Line-of-sight in this respect would be for the Wi-Fi even though an eyeball can't see through the blockage, Wireless is essentially a two-way radio.

    What's the difference between the Network adapters between the computers, were/are both the built-in/on the motherboard type [most common nowadays] or is one or both using Add-in cards? Are the RJ-45 cable plugs being securely latched in the port/s?

    To start its seeing if the router or pc is the problem so you need to check the router when it drops see if its conectted to the net and if your port is active. Plug cable in to the pc and loose the gizzmo to test if it happens then

    Sounds like a bad cable. Move the computer closer to the router and try a direct connection between the computer and router to rule out Windows issues.
