What's the status of the wireless port after instaling a router?

    Low hours pilot here.

I don't understand the status of a gateway's wireless channel after installing a router on one of it's Ethernet ports. Does it change? Is it a separate network verses the the boxes connected thru the router to the gateway's Ethernet jack? My Xfinity gateway, a TG1682G, has a bridge mode. That seems to imply the wireless channel lives on another network. Or does it?

This is all directed to understanding a windows 10 based business network without a server. The wireless capability is throwing me.

Thank you for your patience. I know this has been asked before and I have visited a few other sites. It's just not clicking.

You will have 2 separate WiFi networks - they will be completely independent of each other. This is a "feature" of the gateway so that guests can use the Xfinity WiFi while your personal devices use your private WiFi.

Even if you enable bridge mode on the gateway the Xfinity hotspot will still be enabled unless you explicitly disable it in your account: How to Turn Xfinity WiFi Home Hotspot On or Off - My Account Help

Its not clear what your asking the default gateway is the ip of the router that connect to the internet if that is wrong it wont work. If you add a second router it depends how its setup wether its in the same ip range or a different subnet

You connect your computer through Ethernet to a Router/Gateway and it is a LAN Connection. Placing your Gateway in Bridged mode and plugging in a computer through Ethernet, will make it the only device that can access the Gateway, with no other devices being able to get a connection. Bridge mode is for connecting your own Router to the eMTA, while disabling three of the Ethernet ports and Wifi on the eMTA.
