Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000 stopped working

    Hi,
a friend of mine recently had a failing HDD in his laptop. So we bought him a new one and installed windows 10 (his laptop is a HP G56, it shipped with win 7, but he lost the disc).

I had a USB drive with Windows 10 1709 home lying around. After installation everything worked fine (WLAN connected and worked). He used it for a day, when suddenly the WLAN stopped working. The card disappeared from device manager (visible when hidden devices are shown).

So far we tried installing the original Win7 drivers from the HP page and using the Intel driver management tool. We also disabled energy saving for WLAN devices. I also tried uninstalling the card in the device manager and then restarting the pc. Now it has disappeared completly.

Is there anything else we could try?

    Hi Whirlwind

I would recheck the physical device if you had it out of machine to perform the Storage drive installation.

Next I would reset BIOS by loading defaults.

Some older devices had either a physical or software switch to disable wireless. Physical switches will be on side / front and software is usually with Function keys.

Check for others drivers / utilities on the HP site. They have HP quick launch software which could be required to enable the software button so you can turn on.

I would then run a network reset, Start > Settings > Network and Internet > Scroll to bottom of right hand side. A network reset could mean reloading any specialized comm software like VPN's. (Shouldn't be an issue but I mention for completeness/)

    Thank you,
we tried everything you said but the card still isn't showing up.
We also switched bach to Win7 and it still didn't work,
so it seems to be a hardware issue.
