    Cast to TV stopped working

So I have been able to cast to my samsung tv up until a few weeks ago where it won't connect. The TV will say "connecting to pc" but then it will lose that message, stay as it currently is and windows 10 will have the "connect to samsung tv" bar at the top of the screen but never connect.

Samsung phone to tv works fine so its not an issue with the tv ( there's nothing really to alter on the tv though), so presumably I've inadvertently turned something off on my laptop which was required for it to work....?

    Any ideas?

I need SMB1 to be able to connect to my Panasonic SmartTV and you probably do too for your Samsung. SMB1 may have been turned off by a recent update. Try turning the SMB1 client back on in Windows Features.

I think I turned that off myself manually ( if it wasn't already by default) . Turned it back on and still doesn't work.

I have just posted a similar question as yours. It seems there is a win10 problem with 'Cast to Device'.

Well, if there is it's not a general problem. I can Cast both in 1803 build 17134.376 and in 1809, build 17763.55.

I wonder if your Samsung TV has had a software update? Smart TVs do get software updates too, it may be that a recent Samsung update has turned off DLNA on the TV.

I know that on my Panasonic the defaults for DLNA remote control are 'Off' and that I had to turn it on in order to cast to it. A software update for your TV may have set it back to its default?

Can't see any DLNA settings in the TV. I checked the list of devices and removed everything to start fresh in case it had gotten itself in the deny list but that still doesn't work.

Just checked the updates and it hasn't had an update since August which was way before it stopped working. As far as I'm concerned I haven't changed anything on either device, just stopped working.

    Weird.

No, that won't be it. I've always been able to cast ever since I first got W10 version 1507 build 10240.
