Keep mapped NAS drive sleeping if not accessed

Hi everyone,

I have mapped my NAS drive into the Windows File Explorer. Everytime when
- my PC is started or waked it up from sleep/hibernate mode,
- the save dialog is opened (in the web browser to download some file for example),
- and in many another cases
I can hear spin up HDDs in the mapped NAS drive.

Can you give me some advice how to keep the NAS drive sleeping if not accessed? Disconnect it is not suffiscient solution for me. Is there some another solution how to keep drive mappped and prevent it from wake up until it is really accessed?

What kind of Nas do you have ?
You should be able to configure this inside the NAS webui.

But besides that, you could map the nas via ftp inside windows file explorer instead.
This way the nas should stay asleep untill you enter the folders manually.

It helps to know the model and manufacturer of the NAS. A real NAS will have a sleep state capability to wind the drives down when not in use.

Hello thank you for replies. I have QNAP TS-412 and Synology DS214play. Behaviour of both NAS drives are similar - both NAS drivers are waked up even if they not directly accessed. Is there some prevention?

Yes, a NAS will wake up to do maintenance, talk to the manufacturer servers to update, etc.. The only way around that is to physically shut them down when not in use.

@DawiDX pretty sure it's wol that causing ur problem, have you diabled it ?
if not make sure you do, test this out and let me know if it helped :)

Follow this and you should be good :) ( make sure to have it set to disable instead of enable! )
