Will ipconfig return my router user name and password?

Not home to try it though I am doubtful of this suggestion from Cox chat. I wanted to log into the router but can not recall either user name and or password. It is not admin and password : ) I did not make a recovery disc. If I can avoid resetting to factory default I would like to do that. Any suggestions on how to "make" my computer show me what my router user name and password is? If it matters this is my router:

Ipconfig will show you the router address but not the user name and password. I don't know of any way to retrieve the assigned username & password.

The username and password are stored on the router and not available on the PC if you didn't change the login you can get default details. Failing that your only option is to reset router. If you have logged in with a browser it could be stored in the browser and be viewable

Yeah, I figured the Cox chat guy was wrong about what ipconfig could do.

Is that right? I know that quite a few routers use admin and password respectively as default and that the password I believe like when I was connecting the smart tv to the router some time ago was the serial which is on the router but I do not recall that the username was also on the router (not home now to look). If there was any info in my browser that is long gone since when I shut down the browser I nuke everything and I besides I used a different browser and a different computer when I first set up the router and personalized it.

The computer would not have the Login name or password stored unless you had successfully logged in to the router and the browser was configured to remember login credentials. These credentials aren't required to use the router, only to change it's configuration.

I very much doubt there is any way to ask the router the login name or password. This would be a security risk. In fact I doubt that the router even knows login credentials. There are relatively simple and well known methods of verifying login credentials without storing them anywhere. Any router with any pretense to security would use such methods.

Typical credentials are "admin" for both the user name and password. They are often on the router itself. If not they will likely be in the routers manual which can be downloaded from the manufacturers website. This assumes the credentials have not been changed. For the sake of security they should be.

It will only be on a browser if you have told it to remember passwords but browsers like firefox sync passwords so if it was saved even on another pc it may be there

Where else would that information be kept?

The router contains an operating system - usually some flavor of Linux - and the admin account, like any other user account, has it's name and password stored wherever the operating system keeps account information. (I don't know Linux so I have no idea how and where that is kept.)

Just do a hard reset on the router ... and the original default password will work once again.
(Only a hard-core hacker would be able to get the router's current password.)
