    Win10 Remote Desktop without User/Password

I have a Win10 point of sale station that I don't want to have any Windows logon requirements. The POS software will require a log in to operate the cash register.

To enable remote desktop I was forced to create a password for the user logon. The problem is if I remote into the POS machine, when I exit out, the employee will need to log into windows.

Anyway to avoid that so I can remote desktop into the POS computer but when I disconnect the local screen stays logged in?

    Thanks

You should not need to do a Remote session on a POS terminal. Too many risks is why. If you need to watch employee transactions, use cameras. If you are trying to assist an employee in a sale, train them. If you want better security for doing things, use Teamviewer and opt for the business version. UltraVNC is another option.

It’s a small private members only club. Not your typical retail. Private network also.

Is there no way of doing this with Remote Desktop connection?

Not with RDP, which has not been updated by Microsoft for a very long time. Use the other two alternatives. You could probably get away with just a regular version of Teamviewer in your case.

    Yes. RDP Wrapper:
    Releases · stascorp/rdpwrap · GitHub

It allows you to use built-in Windows RDP and log in as a separate user than the user logged in locally. I have it installed on all my network computers. I can log in remotely, perform actions, and log out without the local user seeing anything at all.

However, since it uses the built-in Windows RDP, new major version upgrades to Windows 10 such as 1709 to 1803 may break RDP Wrapper until it gets updated to work with the new version of Windows 10, but RDP Wrapper is normally updated to the new version of Windows 10 within a couple weeks. If you just delay the feature updates to Windows 10 for 30 to 60 days, you should be fine.

Read the key features section of readme:
    rdpwrap/README.md at master · stascorp/rdpwrap · GitHub

    Thanks for the responses.

I'm not looking to access the POS terminal while in use. It's a bar register that opens around 3-4PM. During the day, we want to remote into the POS to do some work but if we RDP in, then when the bar tender arrives, they need to first log into windows. Some of our older bar tenders need to have as few steps as possible to open the register and a windows login is too much for them (unfortunately).

Of course it is possible, and extremely easy to do. One time setup takes less than a minute.

1.) On remote host (computer you are connected to), open an elevated Command Prompt and check the remote session ID with command qwinsta:

In my case now the ID is 2.

2.) Right click on desktop, select New > Shortcut.

3.) Enter following command, replacing ID with actual one, click Next:

    tscon ID /dest:console

    Win10 Remote Desktop without User/Password-image.png

4.) Name the shortcut as you wish:

5.) Right click the new shortcut, select Properties. In Properties window, select Advanced and set shortcut to run as administrator:

6.) To end remote connection, simply double click the shortcut and accept UAC prompt. Your session will end, but user remains logged in.

    Thanks Kari
Does the ID change or does the RDP ID stay consistent? Do I have to update the shortcut each time I log out?
