!! Ghost network after password change !!

    Hi.

I changed my vodafone password using their app and it went ok.

Didn't want my neighbour using my wifi anymore for free.

After this I can now find a network sign on option that has come up in my name: stetwent.b

I'm not sure what the .b is, my brother came round and this network came up on his phone too.

Also on the attached file the IP Address ends with a .2. Why is that?

What is this network? I got in touch with vodafone and they established that it was not a guest network, they had me reset the router but nothing cleared this wifi network option.

I have a surface laptop 2 and have thought I might be putting up a hotspot from this but I can't find the right way to check.

Can anyone help as vodafone has run out of options.

All the best, ste.!! Ghost network after password change !!-vodafone-2.jpg!! Ghost network after password change !!-vodafone1.jpg

    Hi ste20man

The .2 is just an address. Your router is .1 and it starts handing out addresses at 2 and can go as high as 255.

Lots of routers start handing out at .10 allowing you to have some static addresses. Your brothers phone was likely .3 and so on. Each device (phone, computer, tablet, printer) has it own address in the range of 192.168.1.X where x can be a number between 1 & 255.

To see if your device is a mobile hot spot Start > Settings > Network and Internet > Scroll down left hand side to Mobile Hot spot

    That does make sense.

Thanks for your help, I am not great at this kind of stuff at all.

It makes sense that they are given out like that, I suppose they have to have an address each so they can talk to each other.

It's definitely not a hotspot thing, I have checked that.

In attached 1 the true working network is VodafoneConnect..100.

this works great even now I have changed the password(using their app).

The Steven Twentyman.b is the network that is visible but it shouldn't be there.

It's there on my Surface Laptop 2 as well (orange) saying it is "open" as well, this is even though you can't connect to it.

I used a program called Fing to see how many things were on my network and surprisingly there are two

    ste20man.broadband - one a microsoft one(laptop?) ending with a .2

ste20man.broadband - one an Intel with a .2 but shaded out like it's there but not running / awake?

What has ste20man.broadband in Fing goot to do with Steven Twentyman.b when you scan for available wifi networks?

If you understand that then you are a better man than me!

    Madness really, I don't have a clue.

thanks again if you can get my head around this, would be great to shut down this Steven Twentyman.b

Just don't want people seeing it, thanks again, ste.

    Complete!

    Hi,

I don't know what happened, whether it was me or Vodafone but the network is gone.

Thanks for all your time, really appreciate it, ste.

    Glad you got it sorted.

    Bet it was Vodafone.

    Could well be

Could be, I've got to say though, they helped me for an hour and a half last night.

The service was the best I've ever had with something like this.

    Thanks for your help too.

    Just glad it's over!

    All the best, ste. :)
