My normal speed at the Desktop is normally greater than 100. My Laptop cable connection distance is 13 ft. and the speed is less than half of my Desktop. The WiFi is slightly faster on the laptop.

Last question, if I move a cable within 8 ft from the router, would that give faster speed to my Laptop?
Your laptop network card is limited to 100Mbps. Nothing you do with the cable or router can change that. You could possibly upgrade the network card inside the laptop, or use a USB Gigabit external network adapter.

No, a shorter cable is not going to make a difference.

Thank guys for your help and suggestions. Just placed an order for a USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet NIC Network Adapter. Looks like that is my answer.
