My normal speed at the Desktop is normally greater than 100. My Laptop cable connection distance is 13 ft. and the speed is less than half of my Desktop. The WiFi is slightly faster on the laptop.
Last question, if I move a cable within 8 ft from the router, would that give faster speed to my Laptop?
Your laptop network card is limited to 100Mbps. Nothing you do with the cable or router can change that. You could possibly upgrade the network card inside the laptop, or use a USB Gigabit external network adapter.

Don't know what changed, but now when I try to connect to internet on my tiny GPD WIN laptop running Win 10, I get the yellow triangle on the network icon in taskbar and message 'identifying....No internet access'.
