3 Win 10 computer will not share files

I have a desktop wired to router. Have a laptop and netbook (11 in) connected WI-fi. The only way I can share files is through file Explorer some times. The laptop most of the time can access the desktop. The desktop some times can access the laptop. The Netbook will not access either computer. When I try and use the netbook to access any other computer I get--ENTER NETWORK CREDENTIALS.

First off you should set up a P2P Workgroup there are tutorials everywhere. Shares need to be set up as well as security needs to be set up. Creating a Workgroup in Windows 10; http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-3114774/set-join-workgroup-windows.html

    then ensure that
    Function Discovery Provider Host
    Function Discovery Resource Publication
And Insure they are set to start automatically
    services.msc run as Admin
Ensure SMB is turned off unselect for program and feature windows/Windows Features

When all this fails reinstall your NIC drivers, Windows Update will overwrite your drivers so sometime you will need to reinstall the correct ones. rather than use the native windows drivers.

Check your Router for firmware updates and reboot, reboot each computer and hopefully, you will have a P2P network set up that will work. Windows 10 has steadily been making it harder for us to set these up, Home Group has been discontinued.

The last issue I had to solve ended up being the driver from my Intel NIC card driver it didn't like the windows native driver and the issue was solved by downloading the latest for my card from Intel Download.

It took a while but I finally did the work group bit. Then did function host and Publication. Finally got them to automatic. Finally found the SMB and unchecked them. The laptop can see the desk top and can access the desktop. The desktop can see the laptop and netbook, but can not access the other two computers. The problems is the desktop is asking for the network credentials off the laptop and netbook. The netbook can see both other two computer but it also wants network credentials. I have put in the log in info from the different computers but the net work credentials are rejected all the time.

    Hi there

I assume this is a Windows only network.

    1) ensure Shares are defined correctly on all computers (right mouse click on Disk / folder and choose sharing)
    2) ensure Network discovery is enabled on all computers
    3) If ANY computer in your network is running anything other than latest (very latest) version of W10 enable SMB1 (programs and features).

Control panel is still available in W10 if you want to use it --simply from menu (the windows icon) type control panel. To have it on the desktop / display simply right mouse click on the control panel -->open file location-->send to desktop (create short cut). That method works for other items you might wish to pin to desktop as well.

    4) ensure firewalls and any AV software allows networking traffic to / from the computers -- for testing I'd start simply by turning firewalls off and disabling AV software. Once you've got a useable network re-enable firewalls and AV software.

Note after changing SMB settings / enabling it re-boot all machines. You might also have to wait 5 - 10 mins before network stuff is visible on all the computers.

    Cheers
