    New DELL I5 Laptop-Cant get WI-FI to link toD-Link router-Solved

    Hi,

Bought a new Dell I5 laptop today, cannot get Wi-Fi to link to router(No network port, only Wi-Fi).

Router security type: ...................................................................Dell Laptop Security typeWindows Home)
    NONE .................................................................................................... ........OPEN
    WEP .................................................................................................... .............WEP
    WPA(TKIP) .......................................................................................WPA2-Personal AES
    WPA(AES) ........................................................................................WPA2-Enterprise AES
    WPA2(AES)
    WPA2(TKIP)=Works to smartphone .....................................................802.11xWEP
    WPA2 MIXED

    1-The smartphone works to WPA2(TKIP).
2-The Laptop does see the router under the username used with smartphone.

Any ideas to get the DEll connected-?

Press the Windows and "i" keys simultaneously, click "Network and Internet", "Wi-Fi", "Show available networks", then right-click the router and select "Connect".

The laptop says, connections available, if I look I see my router and the neighbour's one.
Note:The router sees the smartphone MAC address, but never the laptop, even with smartphone disconnected.

If I rightclick the router, it ask for key which I enter...,(( it is correct because I had a screenprint of it and reentered it and the smartphone still connects to router, so the the key is correct)). ..It then try to connect and fail, then try again and fail, it then says "not connected".
I tried a lot of things, but no luck.

    Will try another router tomorrow.

    Hey Chris77,
Have you checked to see what ipconfig /all shows for your IP address ?

    Open Command Prompt as Admin
    ipconfig /all

    Edit:
DUH ... Since you're not actually connected, ipconfig /all is probably not gonna show anything.

Have you checked your D-Link Router Admin to see if maybe it has Access Control (turned on) and it's blocking your Adapters MAC Address ???

Try clicking connect again, enter the key, then click the eye icon at the right and make sure the key is correct.

    Semi-Fixed...............Cisco Router

    Hi, thanks for replies.

    Cisco Router-Success
I decided to switch off the d-Link router, and fire up my other Cisco router.
Enabled SSID, and it was discovered by laptop and connected quickly, so now I know laptop is ok, just not sure how secure this wireless connection is. Will let it update, may take the whole weekend for all I know.

If I can figure out the situation from other router wireless & smartphone situation, I will let you know next week.
Maybe I hard reset the D-Link and start all over with it, get the laptop connected in house(for wife), and then battle with the smartphone in addition, if I can get it to work to the D-Link router at all.

    D-Link Router problem solved

Ok, after updating laptop from Cisco router, I came back to the D-Link router.

I tried every option I could determine, no luck with laptop.

I then hardware reset the D-Link Router and used the setup wizard to set it up, which includes the wireless.
    Used...WPA(AES)
It now works, can see both MAC addresses from Phone and Laptop. I could not determine the exact cause.
