    Unable to remove disconnected share

I was trying to (forget?) a smb share. I right-clicked, and did "Disconnect". Instead, it seems to have totally removed it, but it still shows up, and it errors out saying that it can't connect to it any longer. When I right-click on it, there doesn't seem to be any way to remove the share.

    Hey droidus,
Open Command Prompt as Admin ... Try using the net use command to delete the share.
    net use - list shares
net use x: /delete - deletes share (replace x: with the share letter you want to delete)

I am guessing the drive letter would be under "Local", but I don't see any, and the drive still shows up in explorer with a letter.

Yea it should, try using regular Command Prompt ...

    C:\Users\eagle>net use
    New connections will be remembered.

    Status Local Remote Network

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OK X: \\192.168.1.x\User Microsoft Windows Network
OK Y: \\192.168.1.x\TempFiles Microsoft Windows Network
OK Z: \\192.168.1.x\ShareDrive Microsoft Windows Network
    The command completed successfully.

It shows up there, but again, without a local drive letter (the status is OK, oddly enough).

Not sure what's up with that, but you can also check/remove it in the registry ...

    1. Open regedit and navigate to following key ...
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MountPoints2

    2. You should see entries under MountPoints2 like ...
    ##192.168.1.x#User
    ##192.168.1.x#TempFiles
    ##192.168.1.x#ShareDrive

    3. You can Right Click and Delete the appropriate key

Note: I would export the key first, just to be on the safe side :)

Backup'd and deleted, but it's still there. Maybe upon reboot it will go away?

If a reboot doesn't fix the issue check the following

    1. Open regedit and navigate to the following key ...
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Network

    2. Under Network you should see the Drive Letters associated with your shares.
    Example ...
    X
    Y
    Z

    3. Right Click and Delete the appropriate key

Note: I would export the key first, just to be on the safe side.
