Windows 10 half my internet speed i pay for

So i'm connected to my 5GHZ wifi, and i usually get 280 down / 12 up. I have test my speed on a laptop from the same distance, and the speed is fine. on my desktop which is wireless i get 150 down / 12up. All my drivers are up to date, and i have been searching all over the web for a resolution. im on Windows 10 version 1809 build 17763.1.

    Welcome to TenForums @Clughzilla

150 Mbps is the typical real-world speed of a 2.4GHz connection. See: https://www.centurylink.com/home/hel...d-you-use.html

Are you sure your desktop is connecting at 5GHz and not using 2.4GHz? You can find out in Settings > Network & Internet > WiFi > Hardware properties.

That page will also tell you the make and model of your desktop's WiFi adapter. Google its specs to see if it is capable of supporting 5GHz.

I have to change the driver on mine every time it upgrades.
MS keeps throwing the wrong one at me, 2.4 only - not my dual band one
Original driver was Foxconn, have also heard of Atheron driver not being updated correctly

As Bree said check the Advanced tab
