At first I thought wi-fi was down but then noticed all the other devices are up.
I booted off the backup drive that hasn't had that update applied to it yet and ruined. The good copy is on 1803. I am not sure what it is on the broken since I cannot post from there, since there is no network connectivity.
I don't know precisely which update broke since it applied several patches.
This is really unacceptable.
I agree that the update shouldn't have taken down the WiFi, but...

Look under "Lan". It's a single installer for both the Ethernet controller and WiFi.
Download it on a separate machine, and carry it over on a USB flash drive.

I should not have to do that after a Windows update... Reinstall drivers and fix the operating system.
I need to understand what went wrong.
Strangely my mirror boots just fine. So it's just that particular install that went wrong, somehow.
Basically to understand it is to re-install the previous windows, let it update to newer windows to see if problem re-occurs.

Actually deleted the Synaptic program right out of the 'Program and Features'.
Even a system restore back to 1803 hasn't worked.
In place system restore is the only thing I can do, but there is no ISO for 1809 v17763.1
So no TP gestures for me ..... for now.
When you do an upgrade, it replaces all drivers. Some updates may overwrite driver-related code elements, and thereby "break" the driver, or cause the device to disappear entirely from Device Manager. You're right that an in-place upgrade repair install might help, but because of the hold on 1809 ISOs at the moment, you'd have to find another source for the one you need (I read elsewhere on TF this morning that Heidoc.net still offers them -- just checked and indeed it does. Here's a link with the download.)
