Can confirm the reason for not trying the NIC in a different slot is because I don't have any open.

Did some more troubleshooting (like an idiot lol) and am now less confident the wireless card is the issue. I turned on the mobile hotspot (using LTE) on my phone and connected the desktop to it (via wireless) and ran a speed test. 20mbps down/4mbps up as would be expected. Did multiple speed tests with little variation. I then turned on WiFi Sharing on my phone, so essentially my phone was receiving the wireless connection from my home internet and then distributing it to the PC through the mobile hotspot. Ran a few speedtests... Got speeds around what I would expect given the time of day: 20mbps down/3mbps up... I was using the 5GHz band on my phone's hotspot, so I switched over the 2.4GHz band thinking maybe the issues were isolated to the 2.4GHz band (as I don't receive good enough signal through the 5GHz band on my home network). Ran some speed tests.. same speeds as on the 5GHz network.

I'm convinced there is something going on between my router/network configuration that is causing interference, especially considering yesterday I discovered my laptop had very slow WiFi, only on the 2.4GHz spectrum mind you, while my desktop was on. It's possible the radio in my current wireless card just doesn't like my Linksys router, but I don't know. I'll have to wait for the new wireless card to come in to test out that theory.

All that being said, I have absolutely no idea what's going on. I've tried disabling all types of network sharing I can possibly find as well as disabling any type of broadcast settings (through command prompt). I messed around with my router settings in different ways... I even went as far as to check the MTU on the desktop to make sure it was the same as the laptop (they're the same).

Btw Ken, I was typing this when I received the notification about you responding to the thread saying I will have the new card soon. I certainly will and I am hoping with every ounce of anxiety in my body that a new card fixes these issues lol.

    Just a little update:

The new card won't be here until Tuesday.

Tried a few more things to fix issues with the current card, no luck yet. I plan on doing a network reset to factory defaults (just through the Settings app). Oh yeah, I installed Version 1809, didn't change anything. I was seeing peak download speeds of ~17mbps while the update was downloading to the PC, so that's weird considering speed tests seem to be capped around 6mbps. (I have Steam on the PC and trying to download updates yields 300KB/s or ~2.4mbps, so I assume the network issue isn't isolated to my browser.)

Did y'all see Microsoft suspended the 1809 rollout because it was deleting some people's files? Great to hear when I just updated both of my computers lol.

I'm gonna try a file transfer test over the wireless network from the desktop to my laptop and vice versa to see if the issue is for any network data transfer or if it's just when trying to access the internet. Both have SSDs so drive speed won't be a bottleneck.

I almost didn't want to open this thread up when I didn't see the solved check mark.

    Yes 1809 was pulled.

Guess it is my background, I would never do an OS install without backups, never. I even backup my phone before an upgrade.

I also never upgrade on day one for my "Production" machines. There is no reward for being first and this show is getting very old.

Every feature update is rushed. They announced a crazy cadence and the managers are ensuring it's met.

LOL, I might just mark it as solved and pretend it's fixed to make your life less stressful! On my desktop I have two drives, an HDD (random stuff) and an SSD (OS and important stuff). I should start backing up the SSD to the HDD, just haven't used the thing in so long everything on it seems less important. My laptop doesn't have anything that needs to be backed up. All school documents are in OneDrive and everything else is unimportant.

A lot of us use Macrium Reflect. We image our OS/program drive and when it heads south it is a simple restore.

Free, reliable and saves many brain cells.
