    Hey Eagle51,

I ran your 4 commands and `sc.exe config mrxsmb10 start= auto` gave me an error 1060. I checked Control Panel and found that, out of the three SMBv1 Windows components, the SMB 1.0/CIFS Client was not enabled.

I checked it, rebooted, and ran `sc.exe config mrxsmb10 start= auto`; it worked fine. I rebooted the PC and NAS and, in Windows Explorer > Network, I couldn't see the NAS even after refreshing.

I was, however, able to enter "\\DLINK-019B49" in the address bar and make the NAS appear under Network; I remembered a tip from another forum and right-clicked to add \\ DLINK-019B49to the Quick Access area. It's a minor inconvenience, but at least I now have access to my NAS and can resume nightly backups.

Do you have any suggestions how to make the NAS appear in Network without requiring me to click the Quick Access entry? It's not that I'm lazy, but thorough, and this behaviour indicates there is still something wrong with my networking. Thanks!

    Hey blaq,
Yea, those 4 commands are if you have SMBv1 installed and enable. The output of the script your ran showed you did have SMBv1 installed and enabled. However it showed that the DependOnSevice didn't have mrxsmb10, which is what the first command should have fixed. The other commands are just to make sure those services auto start.

    1. I assume this is same PC you ran the script on ?
    2. Re-run the script and post the result.
    3. You can map your NAS as a Network Drive so it appears in File Explorer > Navigation Pane using (Option 1) in this tutorial - Map Network Drive in Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorials

Yes, this is always the same PC. Here's the latest output:

K ... The script output looks ok to me. SMBv1 is installed/enable and the DependOnService looks correct. I'm not sure why it isn't showing up in File Explorer > Nework.

    Note:
    1. The only setting I see that I'm not familiar with is the Lanman Server > LmAnnounce : 0 ... I don't have that entry in my Lanman Server Parameters and I'm not sure what it does or if it's needed.
    2. If you want to try removing that key ... open regedit ... navigate to the following key ... delete the LmAnnounce key
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters

    Hey Blaq,
I assumed your NAS is the Master Browser, but it might not be. Your router could be the Master Browser or another PC/Device. The CHARLES-DELL PC does not have an entry for MaintainServerList, so it's not trying to be the Master Browser and you may not need/want it to be, which is ok. Just need to find out which device is the Master Browser and you can use ... nbtstat -a devicename ... to see which PC/Device is the Master Browser.

Open Command Prompt as Admin ...
    nbtstat -a DLINK-019B49

    Code:
Example ... My router is the Master Browser (MS_BROWSE)
    nbtstat -a eagle-ngr

               NetBIOS Remote Machine Name Table

        WORKGROUP <1D> UNIQUE Registered
        WORKGROUP <1E> GROUP Registered
Note: The MaintainServerList key is located at the following
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser\Parameters

Valid values for MaintainServerList are one of these ... Yes|No|Auto

Hey, I'm back. Canadian Thanksgiving and all.

    • At this point, Windows Explorer > Network only shows my PC (CHARLES-DELL).
    • Entering "\\DLINK-019B49" in Windows Explorer's address bar makes the NAS appear in the Network section.
    • `net view` only lists my PC.
    • My network currently has:
      • RT-AC66U router
      • My PC (CHARLES-DELL)
      • D-Link DNS-325 NAS (DLINK-019B49)
      • Two Chromecasts
      • A printer

I don't seem to be the Master Browser:
    Code:
    C:\Users\Charles>nbtstat -a CHARLES-DELL

    Ethernet:
Node IpAddress: [192.168.1.101] Scope Id: []

        Host not found.

    Neither is the NAS:
    Code:
    C:\Users\Charles>nbtstat -a DLINK-019B49

    Ethernet:
Node IpAddress: [192.168.1.101] Scope Id: []

               NetBIOS Remote Machine Name Table

           Name Type Status
        ---------------------------------------------
        DLINK-019B49 <00> UNIQUE Registered
        DLINK-019B49 <03> UNIQUE Registered
        DLINK-019B49 <20> UNIQUE Registered
        WORKGROUP <1E> GROUP Registered
        WORKGROUP <00> GROUP Registered

        MAC Address = 00-00-00-00-00-00

As for the router, I can't be sure. Its SAMBA settings show the workgroup to be "MONKEYHOUSE" (which matches my PC) and device name to be "RT-AC66U-office". But when I try to list its name table:
    Code:
    C:\Users\Charles>nbtstat -a RT-AC66U-office

    Ethernet:
Node IpAddress: [192.168.1.101] Scope Id: []

        Host not found.

    Finally, this.
    Code:
    C:\Users\Charles>nbtstat -n

    Ethernet:
Node IpAddress: [192.168.1.101] Scope Id: []

                    NetBIOS Local Name Table

           Name Type Status
        ---------------------------------------------
        CHARLES-DELL <00> UNIQUE Registered
        MONKEYHOUSE <00> GROUP Registered
        CHARLES-DELL <20> UNIQUE Registered
        MONKEYHOUSE <1E> GROUP Registered
        MONKEYHOUSE <1D> UNIQUE Registered
        ☺☻__MSBROWSE__☻<01> GROUP Registered
Does any of this give you any clues?

    Hey blaq,
It appears that your NAS is on the wrong workgroup. It's showing (WORKGROUP) and it should be (MONKEYHOUSE), since that's the workgroup your router and PC are using. I think you need fix that before doing anything else.

    Note:
    1. Right now CHARLES-DELL is the Master Browser. I think once you fix your NAS workgroup issue, the NAS will become the Master Browser and show up in File Explorer > Network.
    2. Your router would only be the Master Browser, if you're using your routers USB File Share (i.e. have USB HDD connected) and have it turned on & configured.

UPDATE: I'm pretty sure you do have the MaintainServerList Key, but I found an a typo in my script so it was showing you didn't have one ... sorry about ...

    UPDATE:
I was wondering why my script was NOT showing a MaintainServerList key for you, when it should since you have SMBv1 installed/enable ... I found a typo in my script

    FIXED SCRIPT:
    Code:
    Note: The following script ....
    1. Makes NO changes to your PC (For information only)
    2. Only shows PC NAME (Does NOT reveal any personal info)
    3. It creates a .txt file on your Desktop (Assumes your Desktop Folder has NOT been moved)
    4. Upload the .txt file in your post if you need help with the output.

Open PowerShell as Admin. Copy/Paste the following, making sure to hit enter after the last line.

    $(
    write-output "CHECKING SMB FOR COMPUTER $($env:computername) @ $(get-date -format g)"

I had changed both routers' workgroup to MONKEYHOUSE after my last reply. At this point, I forced my main router to be the master browser. (USB Application > Media Services and Servers > Network Place (Samba) Share / Cloud Disk tab > Force as Master Browser) I already had the Samba share active, although nothing was being shared and no USB disk connected.

    A few minutes later:
    Code:
    PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> nbtstat -a RT-AC66U-office

    Ethernet:
Node IpAddress: [192.168.1.101] Scope Id: []

    • The router is now the master browser. Yay!
    • Refreshing Windows Explorer > Network on my PC now shows "RT-AC66U-OFFICE" as a computer.
    • DLINK-019B49 still doesn't show in Network.

What should I do next to get the NAS to appear in Network?

Your continued help is very much appreciated.
