Over WiFi, how can two PCs to read/write each other's C: drives?

    Hello

Is it possible, over WiFi, to set up two PCs that can read/write to each other's C: drives?
If so how can I achieve that?

EDIT: To get clear, my main desktop PC is connected to my Virgin Media router by Ethernet. However my laptop PC is connected by WiFi. I want to be able to synchronize my data folder on my two PCs.

    Many thanks

    J

What do you mean exactly? Do you mean 2 PCs, both connected to the same router (at home for example) via Wi-Fi?

Or do you mean 2 PCs not connected to anything (like strangers meeting on a train) and you want to transfer a file by Wi-Fi?

To get clear, I have two PCSs:
    A) One PC (my desktop) that is connected to the router by an Ethernet cable.
    B) My laptop is only connected to the same router by WiFi.

And I want to sync the my c:\data\ folders on both PCs.

The usual practice is to share the folder you wish to give access to, rather than try to access the whole of the C: drive.

Yes, all I need to share is the c:\data\ on each PC. I have tried to set that up but I can't work out how to get it working!

On all my PCs I share a C:\Temp folder as a convenient 'transfer' location. If you are the only user on the network and not too concerned about security, then the easiest way is to turn off Password Protected Sharing. Then access is just controlled by Share Permissions and NTFS file permissions. I share C:\Temp with the Everyone group having full control and set the NTFS security for C:\Temp to full control for Everyone as well.

If you want more security, then set the permissions for a specific user name. It make life easy if that user name is present on both PCs, though the passwords can be different. If so, when you try to connect as 'User A' from one PC you will be asked for the password of the 'User A' account on the PC you are connecting to.

Once you have the shares working (you need to be able to access each PC from the other and read and write files to this directory on the other machine) there are various programs that you can run which will sync the two directories.

For example : Download SyncToy 2.1 from Official Microsoft Download Center or FreeFileSync download | SourceForge.net

Either you run manually or schedule to run daily or weekly to ensure your C:\Data remains the same on both.

On my Laptop, in File Explorer, if I go to "> Network " in the address bar, I can now see the name of my PC. It's very slow but yes SyncToy does work.

However it is irritating is that I still can't seem my laptop from my main PC.
[Bizarrely, something that appears to be on my laptop with a category of "Media Devices" does seem to be visible from my main PC... ]

Again, if you're not too concerned about security, you could try turning on the deprecated SMB1 Client on all PCs (it's off by default). That seems to make them all visible from each other.

This is a bit bonkers. I just ticked SMB 1.0 client on both computers, and now the main PC can see the laptop, but the laptop can't see the main PC(!).

Is it not possible to have both PCs able to see each other?
