How do I cast my Windows 10 PC to my Smart TV/Fire Stick/etc

I haven't really updated my entertainment system in ages but am doing so now and I have a PC (desktop) that I'd like to screen share with my TV. They are in different rooms and I can't just run a long cable.

I'm assuming I'll have to do it via Wifi or Bluetooth or something along those lines.

I have a Fire TV stick and tried following these instructions:
How to mirror Windows 10 to the Amazon Fire TV Stick | Alphr
but my PC "doesn't support Miracast so it can't project wirelessly". I presume this is from having a desktop motherboard that doesn't have wifi networking (I'm connected with ethernet cable), bleutooth, etc. If that is indeed the case, is there some simple/cheap piece of hardware I can get to make this possible?

If I need a Chromecast, I am open to that as well.

    Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum. If your TV is on your network all you should need to do is find a movie on your desktop right click and there should be an opportunity cast to pick your TV and it's done

Thank you for the quick reply. I actually never knew that option was there (guess I should right click more often...) and that will work if I want to cast a specific movie... but not if I want to, say, cast a youtube video, or just my whole screen with who knows what. Maybe media, maybe a browser window, maybe a game, who knows!

Yesterday I was watching 3 college football games on my PC at once through different ESPN/CBS services and I thought about how much nicer it would have been to be able to cast the whole screen onto my 65" TV and sit on a leather couch instead of my 24" computer screen in an uncomfortable chair!

The cheapest and "old-fashioned, non-technical" way is to buy a HDMI cable. Connect one end of the HDMI cable to your TV and the other end to your PC.
Assuming you have a wireless mouse. Take it to your couch and you will be running your Win 10 PC on your 65" TV ( minus the keyboard.)

You could always add a WiFi dongle, but it's a bit more than that. The Display adapter and its driver also have to support Miracast, not all do. To find out if yours does, use WinKey+R to open the Run box, type DxDiag and click OK. In DxDiag click the 'Save All information' button. This produces a text file DxDiag.txt. Under the 'Display Devices' section it will tell you if Miracast is supported or not. Most machines built for Windows 8.1 or later are likely to support Miracast, but older machines probably don't.

Chrome Cast if you want to share stuff from browser. The NVIDIA Shield does allow for better Sideloading of APK's.

    Hi sakau2007

Without buying new hardware you could try Reflector 3 it might work.
( the free version have watermark tho )
I used AirParrot 2 before but that's if you wanna cast ur win desktop to apple tv

But if you don't mind spendning abit of money on new hardware i recommend Steam Link
It can do everything your asking for, you just need to have steam running on ur pc.
You can either limit steam link to only cast your steam library or you can mirror your entire desktop.

I managed to get my steam link for around 35$
