Blimey I'm a noob! What's Powershell? How do you 'remap' a drive? And the database backend is in a folder in c: but the shortcut is on the desktop (obviously!) Question is, on the mapped drive should it point to the desktop, or the folder containing all the database files? Many thanks
K ... a screen shot of your File Explorer would help
Sounds like you have/had a Desktop Shortcut that pointed to a shared folder on the server and didn't have an actual Mapped Network Drive .. OR ... You could have had both.
    1. Do you still have that Shortcut on your Desktop ... If you don't, you can re-create it
    a. Right Click on your Desktop > New > Shortcut
    b. For the location enter \\CAMMSLTD-PC\cammsdb or you can click Browse > Network > CAMMSLTD-PC > cammsdb
    c. Click Next > Give it a name > Click Finish

Cheers, Eagle - You're a sucker for punishment! I hate trying to unravel other people's work.

From what I can see, there is an icon on each desktop, on every PC, that is for the correct database. The actual database is on our main PC, but is available on both the 'slave' PCs as well (So it must be shared in some way) When you click on the icon from the slave PCs, you get the error about no X: Drive etc.

So are the file/s mirrored on the PCs? Or are they bounced from the main PC to the others? (If so, what's the need for the X: Drive?) Is there a cleaner/simpler way of being able to view/amend the database from each PC? Thanks.

EDIT: Just re-read your reply, and I think the penny has dropped. So was all of the 'guts'/main database folder shared from the main PC, through the X: drive, Or was the files copied to the X: drive? If I right click on the icons for the database on each desktop, on the slave PCs, shouldn't it still give me the folder path for the file?

It's really hard to say, since I don't know what the Desktop Shortcut actually does. Since whatever it is it's doing has to have access to the Main PC ... then yes you need to have access to it's shared folders. The X: is probably just an arbitrary letter that was assigned to it.

I believe, it's all shared from the Main PC thru the X: Drive ... NOT copied to the X: Drive

Yes, might help if you copy/paste what it shows for the location.

BTW ... Have you tried to manually access the Main PC from one of the Slave PC's

In File Explorer > Address Bar > \\CAMMSLTD-PC

Hello (again!) I can now see the network drive (X:) with the files in it (but on one of the machines, I have accidently pointed the folder to the sub-folder containing the database, not all the files in that drive.......how do I swap it?)

When I try and access the database from a slave PC, all I get is this screen......

How do I get the PC to show me the whole database, and not the design form? Many thanks :)

Without knowing the folder structure it's hard to say, but if you start at \\CAMMSLTD-PC (post #14 above) you should be able to see all the shared folders and drill down to find the folder you need.

Thanks Eagle. I did look through folders in the backend of the database, but couldn't find the front menu. Is it a security problem?

Possible, but I don't think so. It's been so long since I've messed with MS Access, I'm not sure what you mean by "front menu" ?

The database has a front menu/splash screen, where all of the different operations are listed, and where we can access the database from directly.

EDIT: From what I can work out, it seems that the database has been split (.be file extension?), so I've found the back end (hence the design forms) but not the front end. Where, oh where did it go?

    K ...
    1. Have you checked the Slave PC's to see it's actually on them vs the Server ?
    2. Do you know that name of it, so you could search for it ?

I'm guessing here, but I bet it's on the Slave PC's and when you run it it connects to server shared folders for access to the database.
