Access Win 10 from ES File Explorer

I'm not certain that this is the correct forum for this question but I'll ask....

I have an android media server and have installed ES File Explorer so that I can access the media server from the PC in much the same way that I can access another computer on my network. (to move files back and forth)

I am able to access the media server using an FTP program (Filezilla) and I can see and manage all the files on the media server itself. However, I have an external HDD attached to the media server and can't see it from my Win 10 PC.

Does anyone know how I can make the external HDD visible to the Win 10 PC?

how do u connect the drive ? via usb 3.0 or 2.0 ?
if you plug in the drive in another computer does it appear there?
is it a new external hdd?

I probably didn't explain my configuration completely.

-The external HDD is connected to the Android media server via a USB 2 cable.
-I can see and manage the external HDD locally in the Android server using ES file explorer (in the Android server).
-I connect to the Android server from my Win 10 PC using Filezilla (FTP program)
-Using Filezilla on my PC, I can see and manage the internal HDD in the Android media server but I can't see the external HDD connected to the Android server.

    Therefore:
-The external HDD connected to the Android server cannot be seen in Disk Manager since it is not connected directly to the PC.
-When I disconnect the external HDD from the Android server and connect it to my PC, it can be seen and managed by the PC. However, this is a "pain in the butt" to do given the physical location of the Android server. This is what I'm trying to avoid by managing it from my PC using ES File Explorer.

Okey so if i understand you correctly you are able to view your internal hdd from filezilla but not your external hdd, and that's what you want solved?

Btw Your android server, is that nVidia shield or ?

When it comes to filezilla, @ filezilla server, open up users > shared folders > add
add the folders / drive you want and press okey, then right click the new directory and set / edit a new aliases
for example if you wish to add D: set the alias as /D:
Also make sure you have a home dir

Yes. That's exactly what I want to do.
My Android server is a X96.

I don't understand what you are suggesting in Filezilla. I don't see anything like "@ filezilla server, open up users > shared folders >" I've attached a screen shot of Filezilla connected to the media server. Can you be more specific?Access Win 10 from ES File Explorer-fz.jpg

What path do you navigate to in ES File Explorer when you access the files on the attached HDD locally on the x96 box?

Accessing the file system via Filezilla will really depend on what the x96 boxe's built in FTP server makes available. Can you configure the builtin FTP server in any way?

Probably the easiest solution is to use DLNA and make sure that the x96 box is also exporting the file system on the HDD via DLNA. You may have to log into the x96 boxe's DLNA server to see if that is possible. I don't know anything about how that particular box is set up so I can't help with that unfortunately.

An alternate solution is to install something like Media Monkey which will also allow you to share files via DLNA and specify what ever media is attached to the x96 box.

In terms of what the previous poster mentioned about Filezilla, I use both Filezilla Server and Client and have absolutely NO idea what he was talking about either. And in Android there aren't "home" directories like in Linux, so again NO idea what he was trying to do or get at...

EDIT: It occurred to me that what the previous poster was talking about was FileZilla Server where you would go and do what he describes to export directories... I think he misunderstood that you were talking about accessing the x96 builtin ftp server via Filezilla Client from Windows 10 and he was talking about FileZilla Server. If the x96 box is running FileZilla FTP server, then you should be able to do as he described to make the external HDD drive available via FTP...

I don't navigate a path to the External HDD. There are 2 icons on the home page, one for the internal, the other for the external.

I've been searching for some option here but can't see anything that looks promising. The ES File Explorer documentation is somewhat sparse. However, I'll keep looking and experimenting. I also don't see any reference to the DLNA server in ES file explorer.

I assume that you mean that I should install Media Monkey on both the PC and Android box - Correct?

I must be missing something. I've Googled and can't find FileZilla Server for Android but I'll keep looking.

ES File Explore will have nothing to do with controlling any FTP or DLNA settings on teh X96 box. It is just a File Explorer. Any settings for controlling any server aspect of the Box will be in the Settings app of the X96 NOT ES File Explorer/ (Again I am not familiar with this device, so I really can't help beyond general suggestions, but I am 100% certain that ES will not help with this)

Yes, that would be the simpliest.

You are correct, there is NO FileZilla Server for Android. Temp brain freeze. I was thinking Linux! My BAD.

Essentially those are "shortcuts" . Does your version of ES have the hamburger menu? If so, expand it and go to "local", then "Device". You should then see a list of folders. Somewhere in that list will be the actual mount point for the External drive. This is the actual path, which may or may not be available to the boxe's built in FTP server...

Again want to reiterate: ES does NOT function as an FTP or DLNA server. Just as a browser...

Just want to throw this out to you as an additional option to access your android box from Windows: Install SSHDroid (SSH Server) on your Android Box and access it from Windows 10 with WinSCP (SSH Client). SSH is similar to FTP but more secure.

This is essentially how I typically access my Android devices (Phones. tablet, etc). Once you know where your version of Android mounts the external hard drive, you will have access to those files via WinSCP (connected to SSHDroid running on your box)
