Computers can't see each other on workgroup

Recently added both laptops to a workgroup as suggested here to enable file sharing and it worked perfectly.

Then suddenly today 1 of the computers can't see the other one.

    Laptop 1 can't see laptop 2
1 did have a Pin as security while 2 had a password.

I've changed 1 to a Password too as suggested in another thread but this didn't work.

    Any ideas.

    Thanks Bart

    1. Can you still access the PC manually in File Explorer > Address Bar by \\PCNAME or \\IPADDRESS ?
    2. If you can't manually access the PC ... what is the error you're getting ?
    3. If you can manually access the PC and it's just not showing up in File Explorer > Network ... Check Windows
Services for the following two services ...

Function Discovery Provider Host - Running | Startup Type set to Automatic Delay
Function Discovery Resource Publication - Running | Startup Type set to Automatic Delay

Btw does it matter that 1 laptop is logged in with a Pin and other password. Is there a best practice for this?

You changed the Password on 1, right. On 2 go to Control Panel > Credentials Manager > Windows Credentials and you should see credentials for 1 and you can edit the password.

You should be using a password for both, as it make things easier when sharing.

Glad you got it fixed and happy to help :)

Note: You probably already know this :)
    1. You can still use a PIN to sign into the PC on startup, if you want.
I have Passwords and PINs setup on both my PC's, but use the PIN to signin with as it's shorter/easier than my password.

    2. You can also setup auto login if you want - Sign in User Account Automatically at Windows 10 Startup | Windows 10 Tutorials

Thanks no I didn't know you can have a Pin and password. I thought you have to choose 1 or the other.
So if I wanted to use pins on both do I set up pins as well now that both have passwords.

Silly q but I assume auto login is if you've got no concerns about your machine going walkabout and therefore don't want the need to sign in?

Yes, just go to Settings > Accounts > Sign in Options

Yes, auto sign-in does have it's risk, so you may not want to use it.
