Sharing data between 2 home laptops

I have recently rebuilt both my laptops and now can't seem to share data between them

I have previously managed to do this using homegroups and file sharing but not sure if I'm using best practices.

Can you advise what's the simplest way.
It's mainly to back up music and some non critical data between 2 home laptops running windows 10

The lates version of 10 1803 has removed homegroups so you have to use old workgroup. The dead simple way if they both use the same MS acount is to save files to one drive or use Google drive both of these will transfer file automatically you dont need to do anything for google use google sync it will backup pin seconds if you put a file or change a file in its folder on the pc

Oh right I was wondering why I couldn't find homegroups. Wtf they remove them?

    The drive thing wouldn't work.
Essentially I use the laptops for djing and I back up just my music to the 2nd laptop. I use Free File Sync to ensure they are in line with each other.

I guess I'll have to create a workgroup then for them to see each other

As of now there is no fix for this issue as I in same situation as you & only can see the pc but cannot not access them. Only fix I did was roll back to 1709 as i did on my other machine just install the iso over 1803 & all works dandy & homegroup is back also.

To be clear this would need the same. Ms account and drive accounts on both pcs

While this could deal with new additions to
How would it deal with incremental changes in files

For ms one drive you need to login to one drive app with same account same with Google change any file or add add/delete any and within seconds its on both the cloud and the other pc being on the cloud you can access it anywhere in the world on any device

Because it was temperamental and easily broken. Workgroup sharing on the other hand has worked reliably since Windows '95.

To make life as easy as possible, go for the simplest Workgroup solution. All my PCs can see each other. I turn off password protected sharing, shares are just controlled by share and ntfs permissions. To make life simple, each PC has a C:\Temp folder, shared with full access for Everyone (and same for the ntfs permissions). Anything I want to share or transfer I copy to Temp.

Thanks so as all I want to do is share the MUSIC folder between 2 laptops so that i can keep the music library (additions, deletes, changes to tracks) in sync I should just create a workgroup for the 2 laptops and just share this one folder in the workgroup

Pls remind me how I create a workgroup in windows 10
