Get rid of: Warning: "These files may be harmful to your computer"

I have a Network with a WinXP computer & a Win10 computer. I have shortcuts on each desktop to copy files that I use frequently back & forth. When I'm on my Win10 computer & copy certain files from Win10 to WinXP, I get the warning "These files may be harmful to your computer".

I can copy some files (like .doc files & outlook.pst) from either computer in either direction without any warning. Oddly, while I'm on the Win10 machine, I can copy a file from WinXP to Win10. But if I try to copy a file from my Roboform password manager from Win10 to WinXP, ONLY when I try from my Win10 machine, I get the warning.

I read online that you can get rid of the warning by going to Internet Explorer Options & changing the security level to low-medium & adding your network to the lan. So I added \\WinXPComputerName & it shows up as file://WinXPComputerName. I rebooted both computers, bbut still get the warning.

How can I get rid of that warning? Thank you in advance.

Save as .bat, run as admin:
    Code:
:: Disable downloaded files from being blocked
    reg add "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Attachments" /v "SaveZoneInformation" /t REG_DWORD /d "1" /f

:: Disable Open File security warning for these files
    reg add "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Associations" /v "LowRiskFileTypes" /t REG_SZ /d ".zip;.rar;.xls;.xlsx;.doc;.docx;.nfo;.txt;.exe;.bat;.reg;.msi;.gif;.jpg;.jpeg;" /f
You can edit the extensions above to better suit your needs.

For a full explanation of why you get the warning and how to remove it, see this tutorial...

Thank you for your information. I added the extensions where I got the warning, ran the .bat file as admin, & rebooted. I still get the warning when trying to copy from Win10 to WinXP on the Win10 machine.

Maybe I have something set wrong in Internet Options/Security/Intranet. Is there a setting there that causes this warning? It's strange that I don't get the warning when I'm on the Win10 machine & copying the same type of file from WinXP to Win10. This only happens in Win10 when copying to WinXP.

Thank you for your reply. The tutorial, if I understood correctly, is how to unblock a file. None of these files are blocked, though. I can open them in either Win10 or WinXP & there's no box to uncheck on the Properties/General tab regarding blocking.

I'm wondering if it's something in Internet Options, but I'm not sure.

Just a guess: Try to disable SmartScreen.

    Hey phrab,
In the Internet Options/Security/Intranet on the Win10 PC, have you tried adding the IPADDRESS of the XP Computer ?

Note: If you're not using static IP's this could be problematic.

Thank you for responding. No. I was able to Network the 2 computers by using the computer names (i.e. \\Win10ComputerName & \\WinXPComputerName. I read (at https://superuser.com/questions/1490...mputer-warning) "If you are using a DNS name to map the network drive, adding the IP address of the server to the zone will not work. You will need to add the DNS name...". So that's why I used the actual computer name.

Even though my file types are listed as low risk, could it be that I have some checkmarks in my Internet Options/Security/Intranet checked incorrectly? It's confusing because I can copy the same files from WinXP to Win10 without a warning & when I'm on the WinXP machine, I can copy either way without a warning.

I checked any Intranet Options that had to do with prompting & this is what I found on both machines:

Internet Options in XP that prompt
    Download signed ActiveX controls
Allow webpages to use restricted protocols for active content
Display mixed contentInstallation of Desktop items
Launching programs and files in an IFRAME

Internet Options in 10 that prompt
    Download signed ActiveX controls
Only allow approved domains to use ActiveX without prompting (disabled)
    Access data sources across domains
Allow webpages to use restricted protocols for active content
Display mixed contentLaunching programs and files in an IFRAME

I would think that copying a file with an .rfp extension wouldn't be affected by those options, but I'm not sure.
