    Cannot Access Shared Folders On Network (With Pictures)

    Hi all..

    Background

    I have recently upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10. The upgrade was done OTA. While I was using Windows 7 I had no network problems.

    Network Issue

    After the upgrade I am no longer able to access my shared folders or even the other shared computers on my network.

    I am able to access the shared computers/folders from other computers on the network BUT I am not able to access this computer from other shared computers - although I can see this computer on the Network. All other computers on the network are operating on Windows 10. However only this computer is using a 32 bit system.

    WHAT I HAVE DONE

    Among others, I have done the following to no success:-

    (i) Change AllowInsecureGuestAuth from 0 to 1 on all shared computers;

    (ii) Change Sharing Properties to allow "File and Printer Sharing" ;

    (iii) disabled and even uninstalled Windows Firewall and other Anti Virus / Firewall software on all computers on the network ;

    (iv) created and joined a new HomeGroup on all shared computers.

    I am close to giving up. I am really considering going back to Windows 7. I hope someone here can be of assistance.

    Thank you all in advance.

    Kind regards,

    Sam

    [PS: I am an amateur to Networking so please "dumb" down any replies.]

    Hi Sam.

    Have a look at this tutorial. Right at the bottom of Option 1 it talks to using or not using passwords. How are yours set.

    Share Files and Folders Over a Network in Windows 10

    With the implementation of V1803 Homegroups are no longer applicable, they have been drop. You mentioned you created and joined a Homegroup. Could you please check what version / build you are on. Windows Key + R, type winver, enter.

    Might be an idea to remove Homegroup and use one common approach.

    There are long threads on networking issue. Some have found changing a computer name has cleared issue or using an IP address. (IP addresses assume a somewhat static address) You might also try these commands to reset a number of network components.

    Run the following four bolded commands. Use a Command Prompt(admin) or Powershell(admin)

    Do not key in info in brackets, there for your information.

    ipconfig /flushdns (Clear the dns cache)
    nbtstat -RR (release and refesh NetBIOS names)
    netsh int ip reset (reset ip settings)
    netsh winsock reset (Reset Winsock Catalog)

    Rather than using older shorts on desktop please try accessing files in Explorer. Then move to shortcuts once you know you can access.

    Hi Ken,

    I have followed all the steps suggested above, to no success.

    In this case I have decided to roll back to Windows 7 as the down time has started affecting my business.

    Thank you for your assistance.

    Kind regards,

    Sam

    Well I agree with you, this should be a whole lot easier.

    Take care.
