    No Internet, secured

    Hello,

Recently I have moved into a house and I live with a few other roommates. We all share an Internet connection, using Wi-Fi. On my floor, in the house, there is a repeater and I used to connect from it.

One of my roommates has set the connection manually on my laptop from the very beginning. I have no idea why she did that and not just leave it to automatic (DHCP).

These are the current, manual, Settings I see there:

    IPV4: On (IPv6: Off)
    IP Address: 192.168.1.25
    Subnet Prefix Length: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.1.1
    Preferred DNS: 1.1.1.1
    Alternate DNS: 1.0.0.1

Until last Friday my connection was working.

All of a sudden, the connection was cut. On my Taskbar the Wi-Fi icon now has a yellow rectangle and the connection says “No Internet, Secured”. I believe I am connected to the router (or the repeater) but there’s no Internet connection.

I asked the… Guru who manually set up the Internet and she said that my laptop is faulty! She told me to change the last two digits of the IP Address, so number 25 above, until I will get connected. I entered various values there but nothing is working! I have also completely uninstalled my Wi-Fi Adapter, from the Device Manager, and rebooted. Again, various values for those last two digits of the IP Address, nothing works. I have also tried two commands, CMD (Admin):
    - ipconfig /flushdns
    - netsh winsock reset
    Reboot.

    Nothing works. No Internet connection,

I am a complete and total newbie when it comes to Networks. And I hate myself about it.

So, I would like to ask you:
    1) Why does a person set the Wi-Fi manually and does not leave it on Automatic (DHCP)
    2) How can I make my Wi-Fi work again?

Please, help me because I am desperate. To post this message I turned my mobile phone into a Hotspot and I am now charged, because I use Mobile Data. This is the only way to connect to the Internet. And of course, there is no socket (plug) in my room to connect my laptop with a cable.

I am not sure if my laptop’s specs are required, if so just ask me and I will put them

    I am on Windows 10 Pro, 64-bit, version 1803 build 17134.228

Grateful to whoever will help me!

It keeps WiFi connection stable and problem free, no micro-disconnects.

Setup your network adapter to Obtain an IP address automatically. If that will not work, DHCP on the router is disabled or DHCP pool is used, so you will have to contact the person responsible for the router. It could be possible, that your network adapter has died, but she sure did not make any effort to check it out.

    Thank you for your replies!

How can I set up my Adapter to obtain an IP automatically? You mean, from Settings, Wi-Fi, Automatic (DHCP)? I have tried that many times and it does not work. Never! Because, as you said, the person responsible for the router, is actually an irresponsible and cruel person who left me without an Internet connection for approx. 3 days now!

What exactly should I do, please?

Please, can you guys imagine how frustrating is it to pay your rent and your bills and be cut off the Internet?

Finally, is there any way to check if my laptop has an issue? I have an HP Pro book 470 G5, bought brand new in May 2018, My Wi-Fi adapter is Intel! I am 99,99% sure my laptop is functioning peerfectly and all this is just the work of an irresponsible and immature roommate,,,,,,,,,,,

PS: Windows and also HP Support Assistant do not show me any issue or malfunction, regarding the Adapter and my laptop, in overall.

If you have any tests you'd like me to run, I'd be delighted to!

Also, how do I access the web-interface of the router?

Try to connect to any free public WiFi, like in the restaurant.
Or you can buy USB WiFi Adapter, it costs about $10.

Ah yes, this... Yeah, sure I will try that however I can do it only on my day off, which is like after 3 days...

What about the values that were set manually? See 1st post, are those correct?

    Thank you!

    I'm leaving a screenshot here

    - Is there any way to test the Adapter besides going to a cafe? Like a test from Windows or something?
    - Why does the Subnet Prefix Length say 255 when I enter 255.255.255.0 ?
    - I observed that if I set these values manually in Settings/Wi-Fi it does not take them in Control Panel / Network and Internet / Adapter properties and vice-versa. Why?
    - How can I access this house's router interface?

Finally, after each setting I reboot.
But it still does not work.

Try the Network Troubleshooter, but without another network to connect ... not really
    - Why does the Subnet Prefix Length say 255 when I enter 255.255.255.0 ?
Not sure, but may just be a display thing.

Don't know, but that is a bit strange. I always use Control Panel / Network and Internet / Adapter Properties
Open a Command Prompt as Admin > ipconfig /all
    Copy/Paste output into thread
    - How can I access this house's router interface?
In your browser address bar > http://192.168.1.1
You'll need to know the user/password

Thank you, Eagle51, just one question: the CMD command, would you like me to give it while connected to the Internet through my smartphone, like I am now, or when I am connected to the router but without an internet connection?

Sorry, a complete newbie I am..

From now on I will use Control Panel as well, and never go in Settings / Wi-Fi again.

I have a picture of the back side of the router, where the password is but I am not sure if the username is shown there. Now it is night here but tomorrow I'll have a look. It is a CISCO I think.

EDIT: out of curiosity, I've tried the IP you gave to access the router's page but it does not open. It says, site cannot be reached, the connection took too long to respond
